Beautiful cow yellowfin tuna landed off the Royal Polaris, with legendary owner-operator Bill Poole leading the charge. Fishing the remote Revillagigedo Islands in the late â70s was an adventure only the boldest anglers dared take on, and this fish is proof of the rewards that awaited those who made the journey. Fishermanâs Landing, San Diego where the giants of the Pacific made their mark. Incredible Long Range Sportfishing history. #royalpolaris #longrangesportfishing #fishinghistory

Capt. Bill Pooleâs beautiful 95-foot Cape Polaris was built in the Dittmar-Donaldson shipyard in Costa Mesa.
She was rechristened as the Searcher. In her day she was considered to be the Cadillac of sportfishers. Sheâs one of my personal, all time favorite boats. Love fishing with Art and nothing puts me to sleep faster than listening to her creak while underway. Thereâs nothing like the soul of a well built wooden boat. #searchersportfishing #sportfishinghistory

A close-up look at the ingenuity of early sportfishing with a leather thumb drag from the late 1920s or early â30s. This simple yet effective innovation helped anglers battle the giants of the sea, giving them the control they needed before the advent of sophisticated drag systems. Handcrafted and durable, this piece of tackle is a testament to the resourcefulness of fishermen in the sportâs early days. More than just a tool, it represents the evolution of fishing as both a skill and a passion. #fishingtackle #fishinghistory #sportfishing
