A close-up look at the ingenuity of early sportfishing with a leather thumb drag from the late 1920s or early â30s. This simple yet effective innovation helped anglers battle the giants of the sea, giving them the control they needed before the advent of sophisticated drag systems. Handcrafted and durable, this piece of tackle is a testament to the resourcefulness of fishermen in the sportâs early days. More than just a tool, it represents the evolution of fishing as both a skill and a passion. #fishingtackle #fishinghistory #sportfishing

This incredible shot tells the story of a broadbill swordfish that wasnât going down without a fight! Driving its bill clean through the wooden hull of a boat like a hot knife through butter. A testament to the raw power of one of the oceanâs most formidable predators, this is why big-game anglers have always respected the broadbill. Hooking one is hard enough⊠but when they start punching back, you know youâre in for a ride!
Additional info from Larry Litvinoff:
The name of this boat is the Oscar II. The picture was given to me by Dr. Bill Robinson back around 1975. You can still see the water dripping out of the puncture hole on the right. This picture was taken in Newport Beach, Ca. I gave this picture to John Doughty at JDâs Big Game tackle store on Balboa Island, Newport Beach, and is still hanging on display in his store.

Every scratch on these original Marauder lures tells a story of Wahoo strikes from the set of Deep Color. These lures are a piece of sportfishing history and were famously used by Tommy Rothery on the Polaris Supreme during filming. #deepcolor #wahoofishing #insidesportfishing
