In so many of the paintings I love, I often find that there are little details that I’m drawn to and am able to appreciate on their own. From my video the other day, I used Golden acrylic paints and a bunch of Tri-Art acrylic mediums, sometimes using a few of them together until the vibe felt right. I really love how it turned out in the end and wanted to share some of my favorite parts of it. I hope you are encouraged to both give yourself permission to try something again AND to take the time to appreciate some of the smaller details in your own art.

🎨🖌️We’re about halfway through World Watercolor Month and I’ve loved hearing about all of your lightbulb moments in the comments!

July is also Disability Pride Month and I know for some due to age, illness, or otherwise that painting can be difficult. There are some devices that can help ease some difficulties. You can find a variety of grips that can help how you hold the brush, weighted holders to help the brush stay more steady, or even leaning bridges if you’re finding you’re dragging your hand in paint often or if resting your hand on the paper is uncomfortable or results in resistant areas from the oils on your hand.

I can’t believe it. In about 3 months my next book will be out and you all will be able to paint some more adorable animals with me, including Paolo the platypus, Heather the Highland cow, and of course we needed Preston- the pufferfish that started this all!

I would guess that if you’re here, creating is important to you and also may be a tool that you use to boost your mental health. When I need to decompress or a quick pick-me-up, I gravitate towards patterns in my own paintings. I’d love to know what you like to paint when you feel like you need a break!
