Patanjali Cow Ghee Fails Safety Test, Court Imposes Fines

On October 20, 2020, a food safety officer collected a sample from Karan General Store in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand. Tests confirmed 0.48% moisture content, above the 0.3% limit, deeming it substandard despite Patanjali's retest request. The court fined Patanjali Rs 1 lakh, distributor Brahma Agency Rs 25,000, and the store Rs 15,000, totaling Rs 1.4 lakh, after the company ignored a notice. Officials warn such ghee could cause health issues, amid Patanjali's prior violations in the state.
