Player A decides to play it as it lies and removes several fallen leaves in front of the ball that are also within the penalty area.

In stroke play, Players A, B, and C are standing together on the green. The green is two-tiered, with the hole cut on the upper tier just a few paces from the slope off to the lower tier. Player A’s ball is two feet from the hole after a good chip, which they mark with a tee. Player B asks them to replace the tee with a flat marker as the tee could possibly serve as a backstop for Player C’s putt, which is downhill and will be tough to keep on the upper tier.

Player A agrees and starts to walk back to their bag to get a flat marker, which is about 30 yards away on the next tee box. Player C, frustrated and not wanting to delay play, putts before Player A can return and does in fact hit the tee, stopping the ball on the upper tier. What is the ruling?

Player B's shot just rolls off the right side of the green into the first cut. Unsure if they will find their balls, Player A and C announce they will play provisionals. Player A's provisional comes to rest three feet above the hole, Player C’s provisional is three feet below the hole.
When the players reach the green they see a gust of wind blow Player A's provisional into the hole. Player B finds their ball and goes to the back of the green to look for A and C’s ball. Player B locates Player A’s first ball and tells them it is in the rough. Player C overhears this and asks Player B not to look for their ball, B agrees and goes back to play their chip shot. Player B's chip shot hits the flagstick and stops close to the hole. Player B taps in and removes theirs and Player A's ball. As Player C lines up their putt, Player A picks up their original ball thinking their score with provisional

ball counts and decides to search for C’s original since it was likely nearby. Player C misses the first putt, and then taps in.
