Tiny Yard Bouquets

Hi, I'm Jin from Eastern Iowa, USDA Zone 5b. Gardening is my outlet from regular work. Because I work full-time in healthcare, most of the plants I choose are easy-care, low-maintenance, and perennial. I love creating a four-season interest garden with many dwarf conifers and flowers in less than 0.25 acres of my backyard.

Here, I want to share easy-care plant choices, perennial flowers with the goal of having blooms nearly every week, and dwarf conifers for a small garden in a cold climate that will give 4️⃣-season interest, and garden/landscape design.

Please join me and come along on my journey!

I was soooooooo excited to spot Pinball Wizard Allium bulbs at Costco this week — and they’re from Longfield Gardens, known for top-tier quality! 💜 These bulbs are plump, healthy, and budget-friendly — no shipping fees, just grab and grow!

Last fall, I planted these exact bulbs from Costco, and wow — they did not disappoint. Unlike many other alliums I planted, Pinball Wizard has lush foliage at bloom time, making it a standout in the spring garden. The large purple globes are bold but not too tall, making them perfect for front-of-border planting. I’m hopeful they’ll keep producing these stunning blooms year after year!

Mother’s Day this year, the Kopper Kettle peonies are not ready to harvest, but the Double Your Fun reblooming bearded irises have already bloomed, and the variegated irises are ready to be harvested. I found a First Arrival peony at my local garden center already in bloom, while others are still buds. With its color, I believe it will blend well with my other peonies as it has a mix of mauve/lavender purple & pink.

According to my research, it is the first Itoh peony to bloom, & being an Itoh, it is less likely to flop. The good thing about shopping at the garden center is that you can see the bloom & smell the flowers before deciding to buy. The fragrance is light & pleasant. So I decided to buy it for Mother’s Day, arrange the flowers & give them to my mother. I hope the big flowers & vibrant colors will catch her eye and bring her joy.

A special daffodil for the most special person in my life. I don’t know what the variety it is, but it likely slipped through the bulk of daffodils I bought a few years ago. I hope my mother enjoys this unique daffodils ….

Exciting times ahead for my garden! Can’t wait to see my tulips burst into color in the front garden. Even though we’re transitioning to the last batch of late-blooming daffodils, the anticipation is building! Plus, the dwarf conifers are showing off their new growth with vibrant cones. Stay tuned and come along for the journey!❤️❤️❤️
