What causes people to fall away from their faith is poverty—not a lack of love for Jesus.
Take a former thief who gets saved. He needs to survive, so he comes to church declaring, “Oh Jesus, I worship You.” But when he’s broke and his friends invite him to “do one more job,” he backslides.
Or consider a prostitute who falls in love with Jesus and repeatedly says she loves Him—yet the bills still have to be paid. She returns to her old life.
Most people who backslide don’t do so because they stop loving Jesus. They backslide because they previously earned money through lifestyles incompatible with following Christ. Once they stop those activities, they can’t support themselves. If the church empowered new believers with business starter packs so they could earn an honest living with their own hands, far more people would get saved and stay faithful. They could then serve God freely.
With that kind of support—say, a billion dollars’ worth—church growth problems would largely disappear. People could focus on true worship. When someone has money, their prayers change. They can pray the way Paul prayed: that the eyes of their understanding would be enlightened, that they would know God more deeply, grow strong in faith, love Him without limits, and serve Him wholeheartedly.
Instead of desperate, survival-driven prayers—“Lord, fix my broken car… don’t let me be embarrassed tomorrow… prove You’re the God who parted the Red Sea… stop the sun like You did for Joshua”—they could pray genuine spiritual prayers.
Very few churches in the world actually have resources on the scale of a billion dollars (he says he knows of only about two and won’t name them). Most churches talk big by faith but have no real financial backing. Imagine if that kind of wealth flowed into churches like the Methodist, Presbyterian, Church of Pentecost, or Assemblies of God. The transformation of lives, the lifting up of Jesus’ name, and the centering of Christ in the world would be enormous.
Don’t say this isn’t God’s way—it is. The Church of Jesus Christ was never meant to be a poor institution.

From tomorrow, Monday through Friday, Accra is set to come alive as Greater Works 2026 takes over the city. Expect to see Greater Works flags flying proudly, flyers displayed on all kinds of vehicles heading to the venue, and thousands of people dressed in the iconic ICGC yellow T-shirts. Roads across the city—including the busy Teshie-Rasta Road corridor—will be filled with excitement as people make their way to this life-transforming gathering with God’s General, Dr. Mensa Otabil.

Each edition of Greater Works has been unique, impactful, and unforgettable. This year’s conference promises to be even more spectacular, with fresh surprises and powerful moments of worship, teaching, and divine encounters. Across the city, the famous ICGC declaration, “It Is Coming Down!”, will echo from every corner—even aboard the Ayalolo buses transporting eager worshippers to the conference.
