This grafitti image lives downstairs inside of a small hip hop bar in Brixton (South London) called Chip Shop. I took this selfie around 2019.
As a Gen-Xer death is starting to become a blurred line of pain seeing the changing of guards all around me with family members leaving earth, I have friends losing friends men & women suddenly passing away before 50 its really been all too much.
Preserving my peace has been key. How do we not question our own mortality in these moments? Suddenly overhwhelmed by thoughts of ānot doing enoughā, ānothing to leave behindā, āfinancial instabilityā, āmending broken relationshipsā, āhealing moreā, āmaking the most of timeāā¦. Watching parents age-ing, slowing down, its all really just alot and a constant reminder that nothing stays the same as the only gurantee in life is change!
So as we all try to adapt to the many life changes I hope we encourage eachother to really tap into what we really want to do, not focus on what we dont want, only what we do want and manifest it one day at a time making new memories along the way.
Dilla was a gifted soul and he truly did ādie emptyā. This is a term I heard a preacher say years ago and reminded again by Jazzy Jeff in a shorts I shared on Feb 8th 2025.
Allowing our dreams to be birthed is essential to our daily wellbeing. So we donāt die full of dreams. I have much still that I wish to share with the world and Iām sure you do to. Life is fragile and tomorrow isnt promised so please lets remain mindful and accountable of ensuring we dont give up on ourselves but rather honour our ideas buy putting them out into the world and allowing ourselves some grace along the way.
Remember music is medicine lets heal together and elevate our vibes.
Life is a rollercoaster and the memories & feelings within the music help all of us to vibrate higher. Keep moving to the beat of your heart as your find your groove daily amidst the many distractions. āš¾
I have played this song religiously at so many parties. It has always united the dancefloor demographic from clubs, weddings, to corporate crowds, itās instantly recognizable yet with a distinguished feel to other dancehall records.
I have recently shared a video about the secret sauce within this 90s Dancehall Club Classic as seen below In this short video ā¦.ā¬ļø
In the 60sec short video; Murder She Wrote composers Sly & Robbie (Sly Dunbar & Robbie Shakespear) hit the nail on the head explaining what makes this song so magical. Itās the ātiki-tiki, tiki-tikiā of the groove that Sly describes as being the driving force of the riddim (rhythm).
No wonder why the feeling of the groove never feelās dated and works everytime itās re-imagined for example Pitbullās - Taxi, Omarion/ChrisBrown/Jhene Aiko - Post To Be and many more.
Its a simple yet very effective formula of āless is moreā which makes this song a timeless classic as itās not overproduced with multiple melodies, so it allows the lyrical melody to be the star.
We can apply the same philosophy of less is more to our daily lives as we stay on our chosen path and walk to the beat of our own groove. (Tiki-tiki-tiki-tiki) ā¤ļøšš

Daily music is the only way Iām able to make it over lifeās many hurdles these days. Reminding eachother of how impactful sound is to our existence and why we must use it as tool to help us function better. This is one of the many reasons I made my Music Is Medicine playlist.
The sudden passing away of Reggaeās Sly Dunbar of Sly & Robbie reminded me of a classic interview where they share their creative process & how they see music as colour.
This is a great reminder of how music connects to us all in different ways with a shared purpose of uplifting us and alligning us to higher levels of rhythm, frequency and vibration.
Sly & Robbie productions are included in the playlist so feel free tap in via the QR code.

This channel is about more than music. Itās about moments, memories, and the songs that carried us through life.
Iām sharing the records, performances, and voices that shaped me ā from 90s house to hip-hop, soul, plus conversations about optimism, and creative resilience.
Today I shared Sounds of Blackness ā āOptimisticā (Live at the Apollo 1994). This song has lifted me since I was a teenager helping over the hurdles and throught the heavy days which iām sure many of you can relate too. Ann Nesbyās voice touches my soul and i hope your feel it to as you push through this week.
