Following the successful completion of the Round 1 Survey, and in keeping with the project’s goal of conducting frequent assessments for system improvement, the Frequent Assessment of Health System Tools for Resilience (FASTR) Round 2 Survey has officially commenced with the training of analysts in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (FMoHSW) and Results for Development (R4D).
This new phase focuses on strengthening the monitoring of Nigeria’s Primary Health Care (PHC) system by ensuring that data on service delivery, infrastructure, supplies, and financing are collected efficiently and accurately. Using Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) technology, the survey provides real-time, reliable insights into how PHC facilities are performing across the country.
Through this training, analysts built on the lessons learned from Round 1 to strengthen data quality and operational efficiency in this new phase. With improved tools, refined processes, and stronger coordination, Round 2 is set to deliver deeper insights into Nigeria’s PHC system. We look forward to the results from this round and how they will further establish FASTR as a trusted framework for evidence-based decision-making and continuous health system improvement across the country.

For decades, Nigeria stood as one of the frontiers in the global fight against polio, a debilitating disease that primarily affects children under the age of five, with its impact going beyond health to affecting education, productivity, and the social well-being of families and communities.
Despite these challenges, Nigeria’s road to eliminating wild poliovirus, though long and arduous, has been remarkable through the combined efforts of stakeholders, health workers, and community volunteers, with more children in Nigeria being vaccinated against polio than ever before in 2024.
Polio is preventable, and it requires collective commitment from governments, healthcare workers, partners, and communities alike. Hence, we call on all stakeholders to:
✅ Prioritize routine immunization programs.
✅ Invest in community outreach and data-driven interventions.
✅ Support health workers on the frontlines.
Together, we can sustain the progress made and secure a future where polio is history.
