It's lovely to see / hear so many tributes to Dolly Parton! She was loved and for very good reasons! My own contribution is a chord melody arrangement of 'I Will Always Love You'. The video is on my YT channel and I'm sharing the TAB for FREE from my Patreon page: www.patreon.com/SamMuir/posts/we-will-always-16786…

Having played Spanish Romance on the guitar for many years I finally got around to doing a full ukulele version this week. I've really enjoyed revisiting this piece on the ukulele. Interesting how on the guitar Spanish Romance feels a little tired and overdone but on the ukulele it feels fresh and exciting. It's gone straight into Sam's Ukulele Favourites setlist. Curious to know what other people think???

Did someone say campanella? I just shared the high G campanella arrangement of Planxty Browne on my Patreon page. You can either subscribe to access this plus loads more scores, or just buy this one score.

Outside of Madeira I only know a handful of people who own and play a machete, or its modern iteration the braguinha. I suppose one drawback is that it's not very easy to get hold of an instrument (or music) outside Madeira. As a high melodic instrument I think it would be a fine addition to a ukulele ensemble. Just wondering who, outside Madeira, plays the machete / braguinha?

These days I never practise scales or exercises. Tut tut! But I always begin each practise session with 3 old favourites (sometimes more). These are simple pieces I can play without thinking about. No music. Just a gentle way to ease into the more complex things. These are my top 3. I chose these because they sound great with either high G or on baritone. They are: Etude by Tarrega; Simple Study by Carulli; Waltz Op.241 No.21 by Carulli. If playing high G I'd swap one for Haere by Ernest Ka'ai. Do you have 3 favourites? Feel free to mention them in the comments.

A lot of people who only read TAB feel they should learn notation. Being able to read notation is certainly a good thing. But I think knowing the notes on the fingerboard is more important. So, here's a little note finding test / quest. Can you locate the note G on each of the four strings? Don't worry about pitch just focus on note / fret.

🧐 Just thinking out loud... I fancy doing a few more O'Carolan arrangements. Maybe a little booklet of 10 or 12 pieces. Currently working on Planxty Brown. Any particular O'Carolan favourites you'd like to hear / play? If you have a suggestion please leave it in the comments. Meanwhile, let me know which instrument / style you prefer. ❤️🎶

My solo arrangement of Cat Stevens' 'If I Laugh' is available from SheetMusicDirect. On the baritone I use an open E major tuning (EG#BE) which could also work with low G tuning using on open A tuning ~ AC#EA. TAB only.
