A self-taught pianist from the age of 7, Dustin O'Halloran's personal histories give us some clue to the thickly-woven tapestries of his music: he has lived in LA (where he studied art at Santa Monica College and formed the much-adored Devics with Sara Lov), Italy (in the depths of rural Emilia Romagna) and Berlin. His arresting, heartbreaking music is as much an elegant exercise in nuance and grace as it is a pure, intuitive, personal expression -- and here is where we see some explanation into Dustin's quiet rise to notoriety and his continued ascension.

‘Gold,’ my new single, is available today. dustin.lnk.to/gold
Some of my favorite albums have an unfiltered quality, as if you’re stepping into a private moment with the musician. It got me thinking about the journey from writing a piece to recording it, and how many different turns it can take: improvising, revising and slowly shaping itself.
So I wanted to share something that captures those first sparks of an idea – an improvised moment of creation. This recording comes from that space, in my studio, on my piano, discovering something through spontaneous exploration.
Released on my own Splinter Music imprint, it’s available for purchase on Bandcamp, accompanied by a free PDF of the sheet music, and is also available on all streaming services.
I hope you enjoy ‘Gold,’ and thank you for listening!

Blue Summer Mixtape, for @headphonecommute. Listen: headphonecommute.com/2024/07/10/dustin-ohalloran-b… - Icelandic summers can feel like you’re always waiting for something to come that you have been waiting for all year, yet knowing it will be gone almost as soon as it arrives. It’s a mix of excitement and melancholy. I tried to capture that in this mix. Enjoy!

I am so happy to finally share the entire record of 1 0 0 1 with you. Available here: dg.lnk.to/1001
This record has been a long journey, starting as a dance piece with many philosophical discussions on nature, consciousness, technology, and the body with choreographer Fukiko Takase, and then returning to the material and re-imagining it as a standalone experience. Making the record felt almost indulgent, exploring themes that I am personally interested in, but I hope you will enjoy this journey. My deep thanks to Bryan Senti, who co-wrote the first two chapters with me and was a huge encouragement to release this work. I created it to be experienced as a whole, listening to it from start to finish, perhaps a lot to ask in this moment, but I think these immersive moments are needed even more now. Play it loud!

The 3rd chapter of 1 0 0 1 , ‘Harmonic Dream Sequence,’ takes us through a vortex and down a rabbit hole. dg.lnk.to/1001
It's a sonic exploration of our current zeitgeist, delving into the dream-like state we are entering in the age of AI, where our ideas of reality and what it means to be conscious are blurred. It's a moment shared with technology before we step into the unknown. I aimed to explore a completely electronic world, primarily recorded with analogue synths to maintain an organic touch, complemented by additional production from Paul Corley. The visuals, crafted by Reykjavik-based digital artist Owen Hindley, perfectly capture this essence in both imagery and words.
