Hey, everyone! I’ve posted several channel updates on Patreon and for YouTube members and I thought I’d share some of them here as well. The most important one is probably that the channel is still not doing well financially, but before I expand on that, some of you have probably noticed I launched a podcast. Every episode I sit down with a game developer and dive into their game dev journey. But just to be clear, the podcast is not some kind of replacement for my documentary videos. Those are still very much being worked on as I type this. The podcast is simply something new I’m trying on the side.
Podcast episodes are far easier to produce so you’ll likely see a couple appear on the channel before there’s a new Game Dev Docs ready to be published. And while it’s made me realize I have a lot of growing and maturing to do as a podcaster, it’s been very fun and interesting so far! I’m reaching out to more developers and I’m aiming to get a healthy mix of veteran devs (from more unknown to very well known) and new devs. Always open to feedback in terms of what exactly you’d like out of the podcast btw. Right now I’m approaching it as extended versions of Game Dev Docs episodes. Very focused on the developer and their history and how they found success. But maybe another approach would be more interesting. It might have to vary from guest to guest as well. Let me know your thoughts!
As mentioned earlier, the channel is still struggling. Views have not really improved so to keep my head above water I started doing client work. While the podcast is taking very little time away from working on new Game Dev Docs videos, the client work is keeping me very busy. As a result, it’ll delay the release of upcoming videos. That may sound like things have taken a turn for the worst, but I actually feel good about my current situation. The podcast is a fun new challenge and, despite having to delay things, I’m just happy I get to keep making more YouTube videos. That’s all I wanted to share for now. For more updates and other perks, feel free to check out my Patreon. Cheers, everyone!
Hey, everyone! After years of people asking about merch, it's finally here! T-shirts, hoodies, notebooks, stickers, mugs and more are now available on my shop: thatguyglen-shop.fourthwall.com/
Lots of stuff simply has my logo on it, but perhaps some of you game developers would appreciate the Placeholder merch and the two available notebooks. The clothing comes in different colors and all sizes so pick what you like! It's a great way to support the channel and get something cool in return.
More merch is in the works, but it'll take a bit longer to complete those designs. Let me know what you think of the merch so far, I'm always open to feedback and ideas. Cheers, everyone!
Hey, everyone! Just wanted to do a little self-promotion and tell you that my next video is now live on my Patreon. It covers Hades II, Supergiant Games' first-ever sequel! I've been having a lot of fun playing that one lately so I was excited to make a video about it. For just $1 you can see that one, and all my other videos, completely ad-free. For that price you also get access to the Discord and Patreon feed where I tease upcoming videos. Check it out here: www.patreon.com/c/ThatGuyGlen. The video will go up on the channel in a few days from now.
It's no secret the channel hasn't been doing well this year so it's uncertain right now wether I'll still be doing this next year. Views always go up and down but if they stay down for a long time, Patreon could one day hopefully ensure I don't have to worry about that. So, if you like the content and like to see more of it in the future, consider subscribing to the Patreon. As always, liking, commenting and sharing videos helps out a lot, more than you might realize! Aside from actually watching videos all the way to the end, it's the best way to tell YouTube a video deserves to be seen by people who are not subscribed to the channel.
Alright, that's all I wanted to say. For the people living in America, I hope you had a great Thanksgiving (I actually will be having the big dinner later today)! Cheers everyone, have a great weekend!
