Art vlogs, draw with me & material review videos 🌿 On a journey to become a better artist...

I'm Evelyne, freelance illustrator for fantasy games and books, and I'm posting my own art practice journey as I try to get better at anything and everything, from portraits to landscapes, charcoal to oil pastels. I also enjoy going very much in-depth in my art material reviews...

Painting mostly in acrylics and watercolors - and nowadays gouache - with the occasional digital sketch and lots of oil pastels.

I'm a Swiss artist living in South Korea, travel sketching on Jeju Island.

I'll be painting so many statues (and one human and one vampire) for this book illustration. The color palette is a fun one, I hope, as I'm trying to use bright Phthalo Green and Cyan Blue contrasted with soft earth tones.
There'll be a whole bunch of painting process pictures here over the next couple of weeks as I wrap up all my illustrations for the hardcover editon of "Fangs for Nothing". I'm so honored I get to contribute this much art to the book, and learned so much from painting all of them! 🦇🖤

April is nearly over! HOW??? I'm painting so many illustrations right now with deadlines at the end of the month, BUT I'm also very excited to share this month's prints and stickers!
The hydrangea cat is a watercolor illustration from last year that I've wanted to turn into a postcard for a while... now it comes with a hydrangea detail on the back that I painted while experimenting with traditional Korean paints and styles. 💙

And the book interior illustration "Gothic Nights" - one of many for the Fangs for Nothing limited edition - gets a little print release just for Patreon, with the art print for the higher membership tier, and the vinyl sticker for everyone. 🐈‍⬛ It's black cat season, apparently!

I hope you're all doing well, that your April was a bit less hectic, that you had some time for creative little projects - sketching, writing, crafts... or even PleinAirpril! And I hope that, in May, I'll have more time to sketch and make new videos. <3

The changes an illustration goes through... 💙 This book interior illustration was all about the nightgown, transparency, candlelight, and - of course - the little cat!
While I loved my lighting and color gouache sketch on toned paper, I didn't just translate it "exactly" into acrylics, but tried to take what I'd learned from it to make the scene moodier.
Can you spot some of the composition changes? :)

This is one of three bonus interior illustrations for the limited edition of "Fangs for Nothing" - I'm now already painting the final two!

It's always a good day when I get to paint a cat! 🐈 (this one is for another "Fangs for Nothing" book illustration... I'm painting three extra interior illustrations thanks to the successful Kickstarter!)

Join me for a very laid-back, chatty sketchbook session ✎ https://youtu.be/VbdX7J0Ouys I'm trying out different (watersoluble) coloured pencils, some gouache, the Derwent Drawing for warm-up portraits, AND nerd out about pencil sharpeners. 😆 All to have an excuse to sketch my DnD character...

I'm currently painting more book interior art! The "Fangs for Nothing" limited edition Kickstarter went really well and we reached even the final stretch goal! So there are three new interior illustrations total...
For these two here, I'll be using limited palettes: The Zorn palette for the ballroom, and a weird Phthalo Green-Neutral-Yellow Ochre palette for the grotto scene. Very excited for both!

... and there might be a sketching video tomorrow if it stops raining and I can record voiceover. :)

The Jeju Book Fair was amazing! ... but I completely crashed after I returned from that trip. 😅 So, I spent the last couple days cuddling my cat, getting over a bit of a fever, and slowly packaging Patreon prints and painting commissions. Painting while listening to audiobooks is my happy place. ❤️

If I'm a bit slow with replies, or next weekend doesn't come with a new art video, that's because I'm huddled in front of my easel, too tired for anything else. Do you get those days when you just need to recharge? What do you do to refill your batteries?

(edit: The "Ghost of the Cherry Blossom Season" postcards and stickers are the snailmail reward for March, and sign-up is open until April 2nd! 🌸 Really happy with how these turned out... www.patreon.com/posts/153975663 )

An early video this week - I'm traveling to a book fair tomorrow! 🌸 https://youtu.be/vihcGWrnB0I
This is one of my shortest videos in a while, as I really focused on the simplicity of it all: Just a few favourite art supplies, and a bit of minimalism in the drawing itself, too. I hope you like my Ghost of the Cherry Blossom Season. 🥰

Until April 2nd, you can join my Patreon snail mail (or airmail!) tier if you'd like to receive the sticker and postcard, and a handwritten thank you note. www.patreon.com/c/EvelynePark

I'm so happy with how this illustration turned out! 🌸 The "Ghost of the Cherry Blossom Season" is the art print for Patreon/Membership snail mail this month.
Cherry blossom season here in South Korea feels so elusive and unpredictable... It can last for a couple weeks, or one bad spring storm can end it in days.

This coming weekend, when I travel to the Jeju Book Fair, the trees are suppposed to start blooming and I'll bring my travel sketchbook and gouache palettes in the hopes of some quick glimpses!
🥰
This was painted on Strathmore toned paper, with a single coloured pencil (the Derwent Lightfast in Mars Violet) and then the Holbein Irodori gouache "spring" set. It feels like a blend of my gouache landscape sketches with the rough brushwork, portrait sketches, and the usual fantasy art influences... so I hope I can create more of these, maybe themed around different flowers!

This idea came over me a couple days ago and I immediately had to start sketching!

(Do you have a favorite among those sketches?) 🌸

I originally planned for the March Patreon print to be a small cat illustration print (with my watercolor cats from last year) but I'm now moving those to a later month, when the hydrangea flowers actually bloom, and I'm going with this "cherry blossom" theme first to match the season!

Cherry blossom season here in South Korea feels so elusive and unpredictable... It can last for a couple weeks, or one bad spring storm can end it in days.

So I imagined this spirit of cherry blossoms, reborn each year for that short time. Blink and you miss her...
