Everyone thought the little gray cat sitting outside the closed bakery was waiting for food.
But every morning, at exactly sunrise, he looked at the door like he was waiting for someone.
The old baker used to open that door at dawn, humming softly while the smell of warm bread filled the street. When the baker passed away, the shop shut down, and the street went quiet. Except for the cat.
Days turned into weeks. People tried to take him home, but he always came back to the same spot. Then one morning, a young woman stopped. Instead of offering food, she sat beside him and waited too.
She opened the bakery months later.
The first thing she did was place a small bowl by the door. The cat didn’t eat right away. He just sat there, eyes half closed, finally at peace.
Some waits aren’t about hunger.
They’re about hope.
