We love to confess simul iustus et peccator (at once righteous and a sinner) but we speak far more readily of the sinner than of our estate as saints. In Christ we are forgiven, washed, redeemed and righteous.

Confessing both while dwelling almost entirely on one is false humility.

The Lord’s Day is a gift to the Church. Christ rose on the first day of the week, and every Sunday we His people gather to hear His Word, receive the Eucharist, pray, sing and rest from ordinary work.

Speak about the day with joy in your home and teach your children to look forward to it by letting them see that you do.

To all the angry atheists and agnostics who keep showing up in my comments lately, your actions betray your words.

You tell me God is imaginary, that He does not exist, that Christianity is nonsense, and yet you cannot seem to leave Him alone. You seek out Christian videos just to curse Him, mock Him and tell everyone how much you do not believe in Him.

I don’t go looking for videos about werewolves to argue with people in the comments. They are not real, so they do not occupy my mind.

You do this with God because, deep down, you know He is real. Romans 1 says you suppress the truth in unrighteousness. God commands you to repent, and you hate that command because you love your sin. So you blaspheme, mock and argue, hoping perhaps if you say “God isn’t real” enough times you can make yourself believe it.

A few things you should probably know:

1. Your insults do absolutely nothing to God.
2. Every angry comment boosts the video in the YouTube algorithm, so thank you for helping a Christian work reach more people.
3. You are still a sinner who needs a Saviour.

And that third one is the part I actually care about.

You have sinned against the God who made you. So have I. You cannot clean yourself up enough, argue yourself innocent or undo what you have done. Christ came into the world for sinners. He lived without sin, died for sinners and rose again.

So repent. Stop running from the God you already know is there, and trust in Jesus Christ.

Your comments don’t offend me nearly as much as the thought of you dying still shaking your fist at the One who would have forgiven you.
