Game dev mom dreaming of one day doing game dev full-time.

Maker Tech is mainly about game dev.
I make Godot 4 tutorials and dev logs from my own game.

I've studied software technology, computer science and teaching.
And I have experience with a broad range of technologies, languages and projects.
Godot, Unity, C++, OpenGL, voxel engines, pixel art, graphics programming and shaders, algorithms and data structures, robotics, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, 3D printing and much more.

I simply just love teaching, problem solving and creating new things.

Hi all.

After a few weeks off 'work' I'm finally ready to slowly get back to making videos :)

I've been thiking a lot about how I want to proceed and what kinds of videos and series I want to make.

This will end up with 3 new (short-ish series) that all follows the same courselike format.

- They will have an introduction video that explains what the course will cover

- Some courses might have a Godot Project to get you started - these will be available for all on GitHub

- Some episodes might have assigments - these will be available for all paid members on either Patreon or Youtube

- And all assignments will have solutions given either in written form or as a video. These will only be available for the Patreons that usually get Project Files for my tutorials.

I don't know if it seems confusing with a setup like this.

But I'm going to test it out with a few short courses and see how it goes.

I really want to explore how I can keep making free educational content. But at the same time move in a direction where this could end up being my full-time job once our kids get a bit older.

Oh, and the three new courses I just started working on are:

- Learn to Code using GDScript and Godot (no experience with coding required and we will also look a bit into how other languages work)

- How to Make a Time System in Godot

- How to Make a Farming System in Godot

The first season of each course will most likely include 5-6 episodes.

Some of the courses might get a second season if it makes sense.

It might still be a while before the next video is released.

I'm trying to create a back log of ready videos before releasing them, so it will be easier for my to turn my work hours up and down as needed in the future, without it effecting the channel much :)

Happy coding!

Hi everyone.
I always get a lot of questions about what's next.
And requests for new video topics.

Hi all.
I just want to let you all know, that I'm taking some time off to enjoy the holiday with the family :)

There will still be a new video next week (the last of 2023), but I won't be answering comments as much as I usually do.

If you need help, then please try to help each other out in the Discord server (I might also be around from time to time, but don't count on it ;) ).

Exciting news.
Godot 4.2 is out! godotengine.org/article/godot-4-2-arrives-in-style…

If you are following the ARPG series, then you should be able to move your project to 4.2 without anything breaking.

However!!!

Please make sure you have backed up your project before moving to a new version of Godot.
I can't stress the importance of this enough.
When moving to a new version, there is always a possibility that your project will break.
Using version control like git is very much recommended.

Other than that, have fun :)

Okay, okay I heard you!
While I'm working on the new Breakout code-a-long in Godot 4.2, I'm also working on a few new inventory tutorials for the ARPG series.

And yes we will be moving items around.
It is a bit complicated, so it will take more than one episode :)

Also, I just enabled channel memberships here on YouTube.
This is mainly for those of you who want to support the channel, but maybe don't want to create a Patreon account.
There are two membership tiers, but the perks are the same.

To make it easier for me to structure the time I have for answering comments on Youtube, I will also start prioritizing comments from channel members.

Hi all.
I'm slowly getting back online this week.
Today I answered as many comments as I could.
If I didn't get to yours, then it isn't on purpose.
I just get so many comment and messages that it isn't possible to help everyone.

And now a little bit of news:

- I aim to release the first video in a new mini series (~4-5 episodes) this week. Afterwards or in-between there will also be a few videos related to the ARPG

- I'm working on changing how and when I answer comments and helpout. So it is easier to manage for me. The Discord server will be a huge part of this. And I might also start to use Patreon and maybe Youtube memberships to help prioritize between everything. But at the same time I don't want to close off help to non-members. So I'm trying to find the perfect setup :)
I'll keep you updated.

- In the same way I'm working on a better setup for receiving and sorting video requests. So I don't loose track of all you wonderful ideas :)

But in general if you need help, please consider joining the Discord server: discord.gg/vykTAkRQ2U

Hi all.
I also posted this on the Discord server, but I guess it might be a good idea to post here as well :)

Just letting you know, that I'm taking a 1-2 week online break.
So if you feel you comment is overlooked or I'm not responding as usual that is the reason.

I'm still working on new content, I just need a small break from being 'on' so much :)

See you soon.

Yay, with a little help from my assistant (aka my oldest daughter), we now have a Discord server up and running.
Please come and join if you like and help us build a fun, friendly and helpful server :)

Hi all.
First let my just say how awesome it is to see, that so many of you actually tried to solve the assignment from the last episode - that is so cool!

Second.
I've created a Patreon page for the channel.
Link: patreon.com/MakerTech

Here you can help support the channel if you want.

The updates and small teasers on what I'm working on will slowly be moving to the Patreon page (and the future Discord channel).
If you wan't acces to the project files from future YouTube tutorials, there is also a tier for that.

I'm also working on setting up a Discord server.
Hopefully that will be done during next week.
I'm hoping the Discord server will make it easier to help with bugs and questions - it can be really confusing to keep track of all the conversations I have in the comment sections of all the videos.

Also, the first video on melee combat should hopefully be out some time next week.
I'm prioritizing getting the video done higher than getting the Discord up and running :)
