Cutesy Sunday harvest in my container garden.
My first season of container gardening is cute, but I need land, I need rows of garden beds full of different flowers, herbs, and vegetables.
In due time I’ll have it, but for now, I’ll enjoy growing in my backyard 😌

I grew these in my front yard 🥹💕
I’ll never get over how they didn’t bloom for two years, survived two winters underground, and recovered from a slug attack earlier this season.
My niece is here today, she’s eight. I gave her my scissors and she cut the flower stems, snipped some stems off our cherry blossom for greenery, then I assembled the bouquet. Her cut was so good, I didn’t even need to trim the flowers from her original cut. She probably doesn’t remember, but when she was five, she said, “I’m the greatest flower gardener in the world.” I believe her.
I’m grateful for the moments to share my love of growing flowers with my family at my childhood home. This is what wealth feels like. 🏡💕

My first dahlia bloom of the season!
Spring 2024 I planted two clumps of dahlia tubers. They would grow, but never flower because I was too busy watering other people’s gardens. They never had the attention they needed to bloom.
In zone 6b, dahlia tubers typically need dug up due to harsh winters. Surprisingly, my dahlias survived two winters underground! This season was the first time I nurtured them. I made sure to water, stake and net them for support, and I finally have my first bloom! 🥰
I’m not sure what variety this is, but if you know, drop it below!

I’m realizing that an aesthetically pleasing garden isn’t for me, at least right now.
Last week I direct sowed zinnias and other seeds in this bed. As soon as they sprouted, something came through and dug all of the flower seeds out, they left the cucumbers and basil, both are still growing.
Once again, I had to chicken wire wrap this bed to deter the groundhogs from digging out the seeds…again. I also had one bag of mulch left and just tossed it here.
Hopefully this new setup keeps them out!
