They called it *unsinkable*. They were wrong.
In 1912, the Titanic wasn’t just a ship — it was a statement.
White Star Line built something the world had never seen: double hull, sixteen watertight compartments, designed to stay afloat even if four were flooded.
The press called it the pinnacle of modern engineering.
The company believed it couldn’t sink.
And that belief shaped every decision.
Because when you believe something is unsinkable, you stop planning for the moment it might sink.
The Titanic carried only 20 lifeboats — enough for half the people on board.
Regulations allowed it. Nobody questioned it.
Iceberg warnings came in throughout the day.
They didn’t slow down. They were on schedule. Confident.
That night, they spotted the iceberg — and tried to steer around it.
But only 10% of an iceberg is visible.
The part they couldn’t see tore open the hull.
And here’s what stays with me most:
Even as the ship went down, many passengers hesitated to board lifeboats.
They trusted the ship more than the small boat meant to save them.
The same confidence that launched the Titanic…
was still making decisions as it sank.
1,500 lives lost — not because of recklessness,
but because confidence became a blind spot.

I think about this when I sit with Indian American families.
Not because they’re careless — they’re not.
Most have done everything right:
U.S. assets organized, beneficiaries updated, maybe even a trust in place.
They feel prepared.
But then I ask about assets in India —
apartments in Hyderabad or Bangalore, fixed deposits, gold, family business shares.
And I hear the same thing:
“That’s India money. That doesn’t count here.”
That assumption is the hidden iceberg.
Because for U.S. citizens and green card holders,
the IRS looks at *worldwide assets* for estate tax.
Right now, many families aren’t affected.
But laws change.
And when they do, the people impacted most are the ones who never mapped the full picture while they had time.
By the time rules shift, your options shrink fast.

The Zeigarnik Effect, discovered by Bluma Zeigarnik, shows that our brains hold onto unfinished tasks—what we call “open loops”—until they are completed.
Estate planning works the same way.
Most people intend to create a Will but keep postponing it, leaving their estate as an “open loop.” However, this loop will eventually be closed—either by you or by the legal system.
In places like Texas and India, laws such as the Hindu Succession Act and the Indian Succession Act step in to distribute your assets using fixed rules when no Will is in place.
The key takeaway:
Your estate plan will be completed—no matter what.
The only question is:
Will it reflect your personal values and family dynamics, or will it be decided by a system that doesn’t know your life?

I finally got around to watching Dhurandhar, and I’m genuinely happy it’s doing well. 🎬
I always enjoy seeing story-driven films succeed. This one didn’t rely only on star power — it trusted the audience with a real story and strong craft.
Seeing Akshaye Khanna shine again (someone I’ve enjoyed since Dil Chahta Hai) felt especially good. I always root for talent and underdogs.
Interestingly, estate planning works the same way.
In movies, the stars get all the attention.
In estate planning, Wills and Trusts are the “stars.”
But some of the most important decisions happen before a Will or Trust ever comes into play.
For example:
• Financial & Healthcare Powers of Attorney – Who can act for you if you’re alive but incapacitated?
• Guardianship nominations – Who will care for your children or dependents if you can’t?
These documents may not be glamorous.
They’re not the stars of the movie.
But when they’re missing, families often end up going to court just to handle basic decisions.
