Bird Walkz (QLD Australia and beyond)

Welcome birdwatcher. My videos aim to provide education about birdwatching, birds of Australia and the environment. Most of the content focuses around South-East Queensland Australia, however, I also cover videos on interstate and international bird watching locations.

I run a free monthly birdwatching group of birdwatchers in South-East Queensland, Australia. We meet for regular walks and welcome all age and skill levels.

Keep up to date with our activities on Facebook. Happy birding :-)

Bird Walkz (QLD Australia and beyond)

Hey Birdwatchers! It’s been a huge start to the year. Most of my energy has gone into Merlin Birdsong ID annotation and rallying more recordists to jump in and contribute.

There won’t be a standard February birdwalk video this month, it's on the way though.

I’ve been experimenting with a new, story‑driven video format. This episode is available exclusively to members, featuring the behind‑the‑scenes adventure of tracking down the elusive Malleefowl. It’s a wild mix of trusting strangers, last‑minute birding, and a mad dash to catch my flight, packed with close calls, luck, and unexpected friendships.

Don’t worry — in the coming weeks I’ll be releasing a public video featuring a common bird doing something almost never captured on film 😊

Happy Birding

Bird Walkz (QLD Australia and beyond)

Last night I took 15 keen birdwatchers to Gold Creek Reservoir for a wonderfully atmospheric sunset and nocturnal birdwalk. The first official BirdWalkz and Birds Queensland night time walk!

Together we tallied 28 bird species. We enjoyed views of a Tawny Frogmouth, heard the unmistakable calls of the Australian Boobook, and were teased by three Owlet-nightjars. A lucky few even picked up the distant, haunting call of a Sooty Owl!

The birdlife wasn’t the only highlight. The track came alive with other wildlife too including a small group of fireflies. It was a great time, and no one got stranded in the dark! I look forward to guiding the next one 🙂

Hey birdwatchers! The biggest chunk of editing for the next video is finally done - now it's onto sound design. I’ve got some decent ambient tracks from the field, but crafting a clean, natural soundscape takes time: layering audio, scrubbing out people, traffic, the occasional flyover, and sometimes birds can call excessively that it sounds unnatural or annoying (looking at you Noisy Miner!). It’s a labour of love, but I feel real nature sounds provide the best feel for the environment.

The video goes public Friday 7th November - see you then!
