So for those of you enjoying my Doom Eternal playthrough, I have a bit of bad news. The subsequent episodes will have to be delayed for now, as I have noticed that this video in addition to the next, are of embarrassingly low SD Quality. I know my machine has the potential to capture Eternal in HD Quality, but for some reason, I can't remember the settings that I used to get it there.
So I appreciate your patience as I try to optimize my OBS set-up to get the best quality video as possible, because watching it as is even hurts my eyes.
Just beat the Icon of Sin using only the Crucible...
...I don't recommend it.
If you want to try, you better have a few hours to kill, and a lot of patience. Bad enough that you have to slog through an already-overbloated level just to get to the fight, but then the hard part begins. The Icon has a barrier around most of his body-parts that's designed to push the player back, so getting close to him is no easy-feat. It's not impossible. Getting close to him in the first phase is easy cause he's closer to the building - in the Second Phase, he stands farther away; meaning that if you get too close to him in Phase 2, the game registers as you falling off the stage and dying, respawning you back on the platform.
So getting close to him in the First Round is pretty easy; it's FINDING the hit-boxes for his Armor/Body-Parts that's going to drive you nuts. These things were designed to be shot-at, but the Crucible does have a potential point of contact - albeit a very small one. Don't just fling yourself at the guy's forehead and think you'll slice away his helmet - no, for his face, the weak-spot is the left side of his face, just beneath the eye. Getting the hitboxes for his arms and biceps are probably the hardest, but the stomach is probably the one you'll get first - really straightforward jump into it and slice. The shoulders require to actually get them from above, so make sure you have room to fall. His hands are the trickiest because their weakspot is just behind the elbow...Good luck getting that.
And did I mention that's just Phase One? Phase Two gets even trickier but offers you more means of getting at him with the sword. What I recommend is launching yourself at him with one of the spring-pads, aiming for a specific body-part, and then slice right before the screen goes dark. If this works, you should hear the sound effect of his flesh slicing off and you should see his healthbar go down a bit. Unfortunately, due to the amount that he moves, most of your success is going to depend on luck. I found myself able to get his arms and even his face, mostly during the moments where he transitions from one position around the building to the next.
If you're going to try this run, make sure of a few things... 1; ample time and plenty of patience - you're in this for the long-haul. 2; if you've beaten the game, use cheats. Give yourself at the very least Unlimited Haste and Onslaught, if not Unlimited Ammo. If you feel yourself overwhelmed by demons, fire off a BFG shot into the air to clear the field - just make sure you don't hit the Icon by mistake. 3; Make sure you have ample-lives, because you will die a lot in this run. Go in there with a max of 99 lives, or just turn on the Unlimited Lives cheat and don't worry about it. 4; if you're not fond of dying at all and hate how much health and armor you lose by falling off the ledge, turn on Sentinel Armor; the defense boost will not only keep you alive, it will make all the small-fry demons easier to death with so that they won't bother you too much while you're focusing on the Icon.
Other than that, just keep at it. Keep flinging yourself at the Demon, persevere, and eventually, you'll hit the target. But I gotta say, the arms really could use a better hit-box, since they are designed to fling the player back.
