Just a little post to acknowledge my 8-ball team for winning APA Tricups (again!) last month. Such an amazing team. πŸ’ͺ Not pictured: Jon Slavings.

Unfortunately this is now my former team. πŸ˜• We mutually parted ways (zero drama - love it) so I could join my wife's team. I'll miss playing with them but wish them all the best in World Qualifiers! Here's to a #VegasReturn! Go get it guys! πŸ‘Š

In a recent Sharivari post, he asked "What's the one thing you've heard or learned that's helped you the most as a pool player? This was my answer:

"If you don't have a shot, don't leave your opponent with a shot."

This applies to everyone, and any shot in any discipline of pool. Particularly 8-ball.

If you "don't have a shot" (which to me means there's not a high percentage chance for potting a ball), then you "don't leave them with one" (IOW, play a safety).

SO MANY TIMES, I'll see players (myself included) that will run 3 or 4 balls, get out of line, then force themselves to take a difficult offensive shot - instead of playing safe. Nearly every time, they'll miss and leave their opponents with an easy shot. Boom. Game over. You lose.

But hey, you're good at banks right? πŸ˜† Of COURSE you can draw the CB back the full length of the table! Or "safeties are boring". Which one are you? πŸ˜‰

Many times, however, there won't be a high % safety shot playable. That's when our egos/confidence/laziness gets in the way and says "I can MAKE this hard shot." Deep down, you know better, LOL. Even just "punting" the cue ball to a spot on the table where it makes it difficult for your opponent IS STILL A BETTER PLAN. Sure, it's not the sexy option. So what? Put it on the rail. Force them to bank, jump, kick, extreme cut, etc.

Once you get in the mind-set of "It's ok, I don't have to break & run every rack", then you learn to compromise some table time in order to win more games/matches.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE to run out. But if I have a 50% chance, I'll play safe (or punt) and dare my opponent to take the hard shot instead. 75% of the time, you're rewarded. And I'd rather NEVER run a rack and WIN OFTEN, as opposed to running racks often but losing MORE.

Every single one of us hears that voice inside our head.... "You'll probably miss this.... but oh well. Try anyway!"

What % of the times do you shoot that shot, miss, and instantly regret it? Vote below. πŸ˜‚

I'm going to start doing 30-Ball challenges with other players in my area. Any suggestions or recommendations to make it more interesting?
