What's The Ring all about?
It would be easier to say what it isn't about tbh. It's a Gothic Crime Thriller but it's got all the drama and mystery you'd find in a Gothic Horror novel and more.
After reading so many books set in Victorian London I decided to take it up a notch and move the mystery to Victorian Liverpool.
This was the UK's second largest port only after London, and the people and our culture are so unique to the rest of the UK.
Not only do we have a distinctive accent, but also a historic rivalry with Manchester, two Victorian football clubs (you'll never guess what they are) and centuries of history that ties us to the rest of the world through our port.
In The Ring, we explore Scotland Road and a travelling circus. When Detective James Lacey leads his first case, he is never seen again.

Did you know that I write fiction on substack? The latest serial, Salome, is up now.
It's a spin-off for a character from the Muldoon Gothic Mysteries series.
Salome will be introduced in Book 3 of the series (name still TBA) but before we get to that, I wanted to introduce her in her own story.
Salome is a young nun who discovers her true purpose when she murders another sister in her convent in Turin. Salome has a gift, but it would be of great benefit to the Agents of Chaos as much as for the Warriors of God. Which side will she choose? God has made her suffer, and the demons promise comfort. The road ahead is still unpaved, and all the signs point to temptation.

I used to worry about all the grifters using AI to write books (see Spines publishing Co.) but they're limiting themselves because AI only knows how to write basic, cut-and-paste English. There's no character in the dialogue. AI even has its own voice now.
I used to lose sleep over it, but until there's a Scouse or Lancashire speaking LLM, I think I'm going to be ok 🤣
