Too many people judge their future by their past. That's backwards.

Your circumstances are your starting point, not your ceiling.

Dr. Basheer dedicated over 40 years to this work. He built BUILD-PCITI into a system for community safety from the hard streets of LA. He turned gang members into peace leaders. He created infrastructure where others saw only chaos.

He didn't let circumstances define possibilities. He let discipline, structure, and commitment define them.

Where you come from doesn't determine where you're going. What you've been through doesn't limit what you can build.

Don't judge possibilities by circumstances. Judge them by your willingness to execute.

Warriors, BUILD-PCITI Executive Director Halimah Basheer and Niko, Director of Operations for BUILD's Leadership team, recently joined Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley's roundtable marking 5 years of the Credible Messengers program.
The numbers speak for themselves: Last year, 199 youth were served, and over 77% did not re-offend.

Halimah shared insights on training standards, youth involvement, and the importance of protocol in community violence interdiction. Niko brought the practitioner perspective from the ground—real work, real impact.

Milwaukee's Credible Messengers program proves what we've known for 50 years: community-led intervention works when it's done right. With structure. With accountability. With trained practitioners who understand that this role is earned, not assigned.

Big salute to Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley and Brother David Muhammed, Deputy Director of Milwaukee County's Department of Health and Human Services, for bringing BUILD-PCITI to the table.

BUILD-PCITI was honored to contribute to this milestone conversation.
