This particular 125 was setting a world record for a diesel train journey, averaging 115.4 mph between Newcastle and London King's Cross.

Inside the Doncaster Works drawing office, 1951.
In this photo two staff are working on a wall-mounted valve gear model.
FUN FACT: The archive of drawings from Doncaster Works filled 778 boxes. It comprises approximately 13,000 drawings encompassing everything from brake gear to buildings.

Here's a photograph selected from an album covering the Never-Stop Railway at Wembley. As its name suggests, the carriages never stop and passengers are expected to hop off while it is still in motion. The lack of stopping meant the railway was able to gain greater speeds than the trains running on the London Underground at the time.
