In 1916 this Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway ambulance carriage was loaded at Tilbury Docks and shipped to France during the First World War. Once across the Channel it helped transport wounded soldiers from the front lines to hospitals. Railway ambulance trains like this relied in part on voluntary donations, making them a vital lifeline in wartime.

🚂 Meet Agenoria, one of the world's oldest surviving locomotives! Built in 1829 to haul coal at a Staffordshire colliery, this remarkable engine is closely related to the Stourbridge Lion, the first locomotive to run in the USA.
Even its name has a story, named after the Roman goddess of industry and activity. After being retired in 1864, Agenoria was forgotten and left in pieces before being rediscovered, reassembled, and saved for future generations.

Excuse my French, but this is the Furness Railway 0-4-0 No. 3, also known as "Old Coppernob".
Built in 1846 by Bury, Curtis and Kennedy of Liverpool, this steam locomotive got its unusual nickname from the copper cladding used on its dome-shaped haystack firebox.
