Home Is Where Our Heart Is

We wrote 5 books in 6 years! The first took two years.
The others around one year each. 📚

Those books put food on our table, cared for our family, and taught thousands how to eat and heal for free 🌿

It was a monumental effort. 4am starts. Hundreds of miles hiked through rain, frost and sunshine. Countless hours writing away while the world slept 🌎

But the proof is in the pudding! You really can chase your dreams and create something that is nourishing for both your family and others along the way.

We come from nothing... No school grades, no money, just a pen, a dream and a passion for fresh air 💚

So whatever it is, go for it! Step off the beaten path and into the woods. You might just find whatever it is you’ve been looking for ✌️🌞

We'll be back on your screens soon as we step into our next chapter!

Peace be with you all
Dane and Stelly.

Home Is Where Our Heart Is

In a world full of darkness, every bit of love and light is nothing short of a miracle. Goodness in nature doesn’t just exist — its very existence is the definition of the supernatural 💚

God is good, you get it?

Every hug is proof that heaven touches earth 🌞

🍂 You’ll find a quiet little miracle clinging to the birch trees this time of year… 🍄

A brown, unassuming bracket mushroom that most people walk past without a second glance. It goes by the name of Birch Polypore and it's one of winter’s greatest wild and free natural medicines!

When the leaves have fallen and the world seems to have drifted into sleep, this mushroom stands strong,
enduring even the hardest winter frosts ❄️

It blooms on old, dying birch, drawing out the medicine held deep within the tree and offering it to us in a neat little fungal package — ready to become a healing, grounding herbal tea. ☕

Incredible isn't it! The birch tree, a tree rich in natural medicine passes away. Nature's response? A medicinal mushroom ready to pick and pop in your pocket!

🌿 Here's just a few of its gifts:

• It's a powerful supporter of the immune system
• Naturally soothing for the gut
• Antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory
• Even studied for its potential anti-cancer properties

A faithful winter woodland companion. Birch Polypore looks after us when almost nothing else is growing. A gentle reminder that the land never leaves us with an empty-hand. There is always something out there willing to help us, feed us, and heal us. We simply have to learn where to look 🌲

🍄 Want to learn all about the amazing Birch Polypore?

👉 How to identify it
👉 How to harvest it respectfully
👉 How to dry and preserve it
👉 And how to make your own healing tea for the year ahead?

Check out our awesome Birch Polypore video 👇

May peace be with you all through the cold months ahead. We hope this humble little mushroom brings you warmth, health, and a deeper love for the quiet gifts found even in winter ❄️🤎

Old England’s Forgotten Countryman – My Granddad’s Life Rooted in the Land 🌾

This week we’ve been celebrating roots — and today, that word takes on a whole new meaning. We’re proudly sharing a tribute to a man whose story deserves to be remembered… My great-grandad, Fred Mouland! 💚

Just gone live on our YouTube channel is a beautifully restored documentary, honouring Fred and celebrating the traditional old country ways he carried through nearly a century of rural life.

Born in 1909, Fred worked the land long before machinery took over and mastered more countryside skills than anyone I’ve ever known.

🌳 Award-winning hedgelayer
🐎 Heavy horses & breaking-in colts
🐮 Dairyman & cowman
🐇 Ferreting, shooting & rabbit-net making
🏡 Thatching, gardening & stream clearing
🕊️ Poultry, game birds & donkey work
🍷 Wine-making
🚜 Early tractors, ploughing, sowing & harvesting…

Fred lived the nostalgic country life many of us dream of today, hedgelaying, ploughing with donkeys, growing his own food, a pipe in the evening and even forming a surprising friendship with a golden pheasant! 🐓

So make a cup of tea ☕, take a quiet moment, and join us as we step back in time to Old England. Spend a little time with Fred… a true English countryman whose way of life is fading fast, but still lives on in the stories we share. And something we hope to restore.

Please take a moment to watch, share, and help keep these traditions alive. Your support means more than you know. 🌾💛

Peace be with you all,
Dane & Stelly ✌️🙂🙏

🌼 NUMB YA TOOF WITH YARROW ROOT! 🦷 🌱
(Yes, we’re still ranting about roots. No, we’re not stopping.)

Did you know that humble little yarrow, the wildflower you stroll past everyday is secretly hiding a natural numbing medicine beneath your feet? ✨

Give the stem a good firm tug and POP! Out comes the legendary Yarrow Root, ready to destroy your taste buds and numb your whole mouth!

Chew it and BOOM — natural numbness!
Also BOOM — disgusting flavour! 🤢😂

But hey, if your tooth is throbbing or you’ve melted half your tongue on a rogue campfire marshmallow, flavour becomes a luxury right?

But, it's worth a note that every root has its own level of numbness, so if you get lucky one root nice and numb, unlucky, you might find yourself chewing through a few like some sort of desperate woodland beaver 🦫

Been there, done that 😁

And if you want to achieve legendary status as a parent or grandparent… Chew that root, sacrifice your flavour like a hero and spit the numbing mush on a crying child’s sting to Instantly immortalise yourself into the family folklore.

“Remember Grandad? The man who knew the roots and chewed em threw to heal you, what a legend"

My kids better remember me for that and not the prat who once got suspended upside down dangling by his caught trouser leg! True story 🤣

That's why Stelly often refers to me as Mr bean.. but that's a different story, we're ranting about roots here stick to the subject people!

But, honestly.. it’s little wild tricks like this that make nature and memories pure magic. To me those moments are what life is all about ✨

Want to learn all about yarrow? Check out our yarrow video in the comments — over a quarter of a million people have watched it since we made it 4 years ago!

Luckily we haven’t been assassinated by dentists… yet.

Peace be with you all!

Whoa! If you can get past those powerful prickles, you’ll find hidden beneath the cold, wet ground one of the most overlooked wild foods in the world! 🌎🌱

The humble, hearty thistle root! 🥕🔥

Most people only see spikes and think “OUCH!” — but beneath that fierce armour is a surprisingly delicate, nutritious, and downright tasty root that has fed humans for thousands of years.

Dig down and you’ll pull up a pale, carrot-like root with a mild, nutty flavour — perfect roasted, boiled, tossed into soups, or sliced into a stir-fry. Honestly? It’s one of the BEST survival foods out there 🥗

And yes — you can strip the leaves of their prickles and munch them as a wild, free celery alternative… But let’s stick to the point — we’re ranting about roots here!

“Ranting about Roots” — remind me to trademark that…

Anyway!

💚 Why should you bother eating thistle roots?

• Packed with carbs = natural winter energy

• Loaded with prebiotic fibre for gut health

• Gentle detoxifying + anti-inflammatory properties

• A reliable wild veg

• Makes you look slightly unhinged to passers-by 🤣

• And most importantly — they’re ABUNDANT almost everywhere! So before anyone jumps on their high horse about sustainability… Your shop-bought latte is doing more environmental damage than digging up a thistle root — so put a sock in it! 😄☕️

If you’ve ever thought, “There’s nothing to eat out here this time of year,” think again. Thistle roots will never let you down — feeding you in the good days, and helping your family thrive if things ever got really wild.

👉 Want to learn how to find them, dig them safely, ID them properly, and cook them? Check out our awesome step-by-step video

Have you ever eaten a thistle? Let us know if you're brave enough in the comments! 👇💬

And above all, remember. Even in the miserable winter weather, you can still find a bit of joy waiting outside in the fresh air. 💚

Peace be with you all,
Dane & Stelly ✌️😄
