Sri Lanka Standards Institution - SLSI

Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI) is the National Standards Body of Sri Lanka, established under the Bureau of Ceylon Standards Act No. 38 of 1964. The Institution functioned under the name of Bureau of Ceylon Standards until the Act was repealed and replaced by the Sri Lanka Standards Institution Act No. 6 of 1984. The Institution now functions under the Ministry of Technology and is governed by a Council appointed by the Minister in terms of the above Act.

SLSI by virtue of being the National Standards Body in Sri Lanka is a member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) which is based in Geneva. As members of the ISO, National standards Bodies exchange on reciprocal basis copies of their National standards and are responsible for disseminating information on standards, technical regulations, and standards-related activities to the community at the national level.

The World Standards Day 2025, commemorated by the ISO - International Organization for Standardization on October 14 and the National Quality Week, declared by the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI) from October 13th to 19th were celebrated today at the SLSI premises.

At the event, the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Standards Institution, Professor Theekshana Suraweera, along with Deputy Director Generals Mrs. Samanthie Narangoda and Mrs. Deepa Neelakanthi, hoisted the National Flag, the SLSI Flag and the Quality Flag (“Q” Flag).

Following that, Prof. Theekshana Suraweera, Chairman of SLSI and Mrs. Samanthie Narangoda, Deputy Director General, delivered speeches based on this year’s World Standards Day theme “Shared Vision for a Better World: SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals.”

ප්‍රමිතිකරණය සඳහා වූ ජ්‍යාතන්තර සංවිධානය (ISO) විසින් ඔක්තෝබර් 14 දිනට ප්‍රකාශිත ලෝක ප්‍රමිති දිනය හා ශ්‍රී ලංකා ප්‍රමිති ආයතනය විසින් ඔක්තෝබර් 13 - 19 දක්වා ප්‍රකාශ කරන ලද ජාතික තත්ත්ව සතිය උත්සවාකාරයෙන් අද දින ප්‍රමිති ආයතන පරිශ්‍රයේදී සමරනු ලැබීය.

මේ සඳහා ශ්‍රී ලංකා ප්‍රමිති ආයතනයේ සභාපති මහාචාර්ය තීක්ෂණ සුරවීර මහතා, නියෝජ්‍ය අධ්‍යක්ෂ ජනරාල්වරියන් වන සමන්ති නාරංගොඩ මහත්මිය සහ දීපා නීලකාන්ති මහත්මියගේ ප්‍රධානත්වයෙන් ජාතික ධජය, ප්‍රමිති ආයතන ධජය සහ තත්ත්ව ධජය ("Q" Flag) ඔසවනු ලැබීය.

ඉන් අනතුරුව මෙවර ලෝක ප්‍රමිති දින තේමාව වන "යහපත් ලෝකයක් සඳහා වූ සාමූහික දැක්ම : SDG - 17 තිරසර සංවර්ධනය සඳහා පාර්ශවකරණයන්" යන තේමාව මූලික කරගනිමින් ශ්‍රී ලංකා ප්‍රමිති ආයතනයේ සභාපති මහාචාර්ය තීක්ෂණ සුරවීර මහතා සහ නියෝජ්‍ය අධ්‍යක්ෂ ජනරාල් සමන්ති නාරංගොඩ මහත්මිය විසින් දේශනයන් පවත්වන ලදි.

The Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI) together with the Rotary Club of Colombo North successfully hosted the SME Conclave 2025 on 26th August at the SLSI Auditorium. The event brought together SMEs aspiring to enter export markets and provided them with expert guidance on financing options, capital market opportunities, digital transformation and global competitiveness. The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. (Mrs.) Siddhika G. Senaratne, Director General of SLSI, who highlighted the importance of maintaining quality standards when exporting to foreign markets. Followed by the District Governor Rotary Sri Lanka & Maldives, Mr. Delvin Pereira, who explained the support the Rotary Club can provide for SMEs on their growth journey.
The participants had the opportunity to gain insights from several expert sessions. Mr. Jude Fernando, CEO of the National Credit Guarantee Institute Ltd, conducted the lecture on how SMEs can use sustainable loans to perform in tough times. Ms. Punyamali Saparamadu, Senior Vice President – Commercial, Colombo Stock Exchange, shared knowledge on raising money from the stock exchange, while HNB Bank conducted a session on access to finance and available loan schemes. Sri Lanka Telecom contributed by addressing data security and IT solutions for SMEs.
The programme concluded with valuable one-to-one sessions between SMEs, Rotarians and experts from institutions, fostering stronger links between entrepreneurs and resource providers.
The event was graced by the participation of Mrs. S. U. Narangoda and Mrs. M. B. D. Neelakanthi, Deputy Director Generals of SLSI, Mrs. M. W. A. T. Y. Wijesuriya, Director (Systems Certification) of SLSI, Ms. Ranjani Goonetilleke, President Rotary Club of Colombo North, Rotarian Dr. Rohantha Athukorala, Director - APIIT, Rotarian Mr. Lalwin de Zoysa, Manager - Sri Lanka Telecom PLC, along with distinguished members of SLSI and Rotary Club of Colombo North. The SME Conclave 2025 marked an important step in strengthening Sri Lanka’s SMEs, helping them compete globally through quality, innovation and sustainable growth.
