Master the 7 Modes with 3 Notes Per String (Shred Scale Positions)
Body: Here’s the ultimate 3 notes per string (3NPS) scale system — 7 positions that cover the entire neck. Each diagram shows one modal position. Black dots are scale notes, thin red dots mark the root note.
👉 In this chart, the root note (red) is F. That means you’re looking at all 7 modes of the F major scale:
1. Ionian (Major) – F G A Bb C D E
2. Dorian – G A Bb C D E F
3. Phrygian – A Bb C D E F G
4. Lydian – Bb C D E F G A
5. Mixolydian – C D E F G A Bb
6. Aeolian (Natural Minor) – D E F G A Bb C
7. Locrian – E F G A Bb C D
🎸 How to practice:
Start from the 6th string (low E), play across to the 1st string (high E), then descend back.
Shift into the next position and repeat.
Connect all 7 shapes to cover the full fretboard.
⚡ Tip: If you want to play these modes in another key, simply move the root note (red) to any pitch you like. The whole system shifts with it.
💬 If you’d like me to record a full breakdown with licks, tabs, and speed-building tips — drop a like on this post and tell me which mode you want first!

Sometimes I just hit play on a backing track, dim the lights, and let my fingers speak.
Do you also feel more inspired to play at night, when the world is quiet?
