Khammam town was part of the larger Warangal district till October 1st, 1953. Five taluks of the Warangal district viz., Khammam, Madhira, Yellandu, Burgampadu and Palwancha (now Kothagudem) were carved out and a new district with Khammam as district head quarters was formed!

అక్టోబర్ 1 నాటికి 18 సంవత్సరాలు నిండిన ప్రతి ఒక్కరు ఓటు నమోదు చేసుకొని ఓటు హక్కు వినియోగంపై ప్రతి ఒక్కరికీ అవగాహన కల్పించాలని నగర కాంగ్రెస్ అధ్యక్షులు మహమ్మద్ జావేద్ డివిజన్ అధ్యక్షులకు ఇన్చార్జిలకు సూచించారు. గురువారం నగరంలోని 4,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,24వ డివిజన్లలో విసృతంగా పర్యటించారు.ఈ సందర్భంగా ఆయన మాట్లాడుతూ..ప్రజాస్వామ్యంలో ఓటు హక్కు ఎంతో విలువ అయిందని అన్నారు. ఎటువంటి ప్రలోభాలకు గురి కాకుండా సరైన నాయకున్ని ఎన్నుకునే విధంగా ఓటర్లకు అవగాహన కల్పించాలని కోరారు. అంతే కాకుండా హైదరాబాద్ లో ఈ నెల 17న తుక్కగూడ రాజీవ్ గాంధీ ప్రాంగణంలో నిర్వహించనున్న విజయ భేరి సభకు భారీగా జన సమీకరణ చేయాలని కోరారు. కాంగ్రెస్ ప్రకటించిన డిక్లరేషన్ లను గతంలో కాంగ్రెస్ అమలు చేసిన సంక్షేమ పథకాలను ప్రజల్లోకి తీసుకెళ్ళాలని తెలిపారు. ఓటు హక్కు నమోదుకు ఈ నెల 19 వరకూ మాత్రమే గడువు ఉండటంతో అర్హత కలిగిన ప్రతి ఒక్కరూ ఓటు నమోదు చేసుకునేలా కార్యాచరణ చేపట్టాలని కోరారు.
