Over the last few months, I've seen countless posts claiming that "Point Clouds are dead" or "Gaussian Splatting will replace LiDAR and BIM."

That's a misleading narrative.

If you're building a Digital Twin for engineering, ask yourself:

❌ Can Gaussian Splatting deliver survey-grade measurements?
❌ Can it replace Scan-to-BIM workflows?
❌ Can engineers perform dimensional verification directly from it?

It's combining all three.

A modern Digital Twin workflow looks like this:

1️⃣ Capture reality with LiDAR or laser scanning.
2️⃣ Build an accurate point cloud.
3️⃣ Create BIM/CAD models for engineering.
4️⃣ Generate Gaussian Splatting scenes for visualization, collaboration, and remote inspections.

That's where the industry is heading—not replacing Point Clouds, but extending their value.
