Gamersyde Official

Gamersyde is a commercial multiplatform web portal based in Europe, with hundreds of thousands of visitors each month from all over the world. We cover both handheld and video games platforms and the site has grown into one of the biggest gaming sites in the continent. We are able to offer fast news delivery and HD content from the upcoming games, and one of the greatest and friendliest gaming communities in the world. The HD content we provide always respects the original resolution and framerate of the games we capture, making Gamersyde the one and only place to get 4K/60fps videos with high bitrate (so little compression).

IMPORTANT PLEASE READ: The content we produce is obviously not free of use should you want to upload our videos on your own website or YouTube channel.

Also note that we don't always get to choose the versions of the games we get, and that it's often hard to get copies on several systems. Rest assured that we do our best to satisfy everyone.

To whom it may concern, angry paranoid Xbox owners mostly apparently. Our moderators have reported that yesterday a few people on the channel got pretty angry at our coverage of the games because, for some of you, we seem to prefer PlayStation 5 versions of the games when it comes to third-party titles. For those who know us just a bit, it is not exactly true as you can imagine. How would those who bitch know though? Since it seems necessary to explain how all this works, let us make it clear once and for all.

First of all, I should probably start by saying that the website has existed for more than 20 years now. It was originally an Xbox website, but then when it became a bit successful, a PlayStation version was added to the -yde family. They eventually both merged into Gamersyde, which opened in 2007. I've been doing this as a volunteer for over 18 years or so, taking from my own free time to make video content and articles. Over the years, we have covered as many games as possible in as many genres as possible, but for the past few years, it's only been two of us doing this: davton and I. If you visit the website from time to time, you may have noticed that, for a few months now, I’ve had to deal with most of the content on my own because my good friend started to have serious problems which kept him away from Gamersyde for a while. Please note that I’m not complaining or anything, but it is not an easy thing to do when you have a day job to handle and a family too. I keep doing my best though because that’s the only way I know.

Now it’s true that sometimes, I choose to cover a specific version of a game, like for The Alters demo yesterday. Let me give you a bit of context though. The reason for this choice was because I had barely an hour before I had to go back to work. For some odd reason, I decided to use that free time of mine to record some gameplay for you guys. Now the quickest way for me to do it was to use the PS5 Pro as the Series X was not available to me at that moment. That said, my intention was always to cover the Xbox One version over the weekend, even though almost all third party titles look and play the same on both PS5 and Series X. Apparently, that was too long a wait for some of you and it's a shame. Still, the Xbox video is coming, without commentary.

Another important thing you should know is that, back in the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One days, we would indeed usually get two versions of each third party game because we were part of the Xbox Community Network, which sadly doesn’t exist anymore. At the time, it was much easier to cover several versions of a single game, but there were many games we could only show on Xbox One. Then came the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, the latter being supposedly the more powerful of the two. That’s when it became very obvious to us that we should start sharing games on Xbox because it was easier with the Family Sharing option, and that would allow us to show the better version of each game. What it means is that, for a long time, the third party titles we showed here and on the website were mostly on Xbox. Funnily enough, PlayStation owners did not complain about it.

Anyway, the thing is, things started to change for us recently, maybe because Gamersyde is not as popular as it used to be, who knows? The thing is, we realized that asking for an Xbox version sometimes meant we wouldn’t get anything in the end. Even when we did get the games, we would often be sent another version, PC or PS5.That’s what happened with Sonic X Shadow generations for instance. I made a request for an Xbox code way before launch and we got nothing, no news, for about a month. I finally decided to ask the PR team and it took them another week to reply. They said they could finally give me a PS5 version. I asked them if they had Xbox or PC codes left, they had none. What was I supposed to say? I haven’t even had time to cover the PS5 version yet, and now I’m thinking, some people are going to say we’re sponsored by Sony… Come on!

So you know, what we usually do now, when we request review keys, is we tick all the boxes, Playstation Xbox and PC, and then we hope for the best. We always try to get extra codes to cover as many versions as possible, but more often than not, they cannot provide us with an extra key, which is understandable. Again you have to understand, they have so many requests to deal with, and well, they don't owe us anything. Even after 20 years, we can't take anything for granted because getting keys is not a given for us. We consider ourselves lucky when we can have one, we’re always grateful. Sometimes, we don't get the versions we want, we ask for an Xbox version, we either get a PS, Switch or PC one. We also have to face refusals, like with Stalker 2 (or the remaster of the original trilogy), Romancing Saga 2, Fantasian Neo Dimension to name but a few. That’s why we don't get to be picky.

At the end of the day, if you really want to support us, don’t dislike a video just because it’s a game you don’t care about, or worse, because it’s not the version you want to see. Use the comment section to let us know what type of content you’d like to see, but try to be understanding and civil. We’re not trying to make it big on YouTube or the Internet, our purpose is not to make the channel or the website grow, but for them to be visible enough to give us access to the games we are interested in, so we can show them to you in the best possible image quality. The little money we get from YouTube or the Patreon does not even cover our expenses and the running costs for the servers we have on the website. Very few people download the videos we host anymore because the publishers only use YouTube and they don’t make their trailers and videos available to us. Keeping our servers running is costly, around 300€ a month, so we can't just buy extra versions of games just to make a bunch of people happy.

The most frustrating part in all this is that third party games usually look the same on Xbox and Playstation, so you should clearly not be worried about all that. Obviously, if more and more games get PS5 Pro enhanced features, maybe there will be more differences between the two consoles. Based on what we’ve seen so far though, the most successful visual improvements came with Sony's first party games, which did not even need an upgrade in the first place. It may change in the future, but for now, it was probably a good decision from Microsoft not to release a mid-gen console (a console we’d have covered just as thoroughly if it had come out - just like we did back then for the One X). Now it’s true that lately, because we were indeed sent a PS5 Pro by Sony, we decided to provide a thorough coverage of all the games that were supposed to benefit from the new hardware. As we’ve often shown, it is not always very convincing for now but we are confident things will get better and we’ll be there to show it, whether some like it or not.

Hopefully, this will clarify things for you guys. If the channel does not meet your expectations, you are of course free to unsubscribe. We won’t be happy to see you leave as we’re really trying hard to make everybody satisfied, but there is only so much we can do. We’re French, we’re a very small team and we can’t work full time for the channel or the website because that’s not our job. Please share your constructive thoughts if you have any, and as every thank you all for your continued support.

Tonight at 9:00 CET we'll be live showing the first hour of A Plague Tale: Requiem in French but English speakers are welcome as we can answer your questions in English and interact with you. We don't stream much so we don't expect to see many people. If you're interested join us on our Twitch channel. :)

www.gamersyde.com/news_gsy_review_horizon_forbidde…

On a aussi ajouté quelques screens persos. :)

Review is up (in French only) on the website (in much higher quality if you download it) as we couldn't upload the video before this morning. It is composed of different parts as usual: the introduction, a little bit about the story, combat, exploration, the PS4 Pro version, the PS5 version, a few landscapes, a quick comparative between the two versions we've played and the verdict:

www.gamersyde.com/news_we_reviewed_horizon_forbidd…

We've also added a bunch of homemade 4K screenshots if you're interested.

Currently working on an English review (which should be a tad shorter I'm afraid). Thanks for your support.

To our English speaking community: I just wanted to let you know the Forbidden West review will (well should) be up tomorrow but in French only (on the website first as YouTube will take ages to process it's not een uoploaded yet). I've spent the past two days trying to get the video review ready but as usual I ran into many technical issues. To tell you the truth, at this time, I'm not even sure I can actually manage to encode the French version in due time as I keep getting errors. In short, I'm sorry I couldn't do an better, but be sure I couldn't have tried more. What a Sunday! :x
