“No, Not My Child.” – When Denial Protects the Problem
When a principal calls and says:
“Your child is being bullied.”
Or
“Your child is bullying someone.”
The first reaction for many parents is:
“No, not my child.”
But denial does not protect children.
It protects the problem.
Bullying grows when adults minimize warning signs, dismiss concerns, or defend behavior without first seeking the truth.
Real protection requires courage.
Instead of reacting emotionally, ask:
• What actually happened?
• What does my child need to learn?
• What support does the other child need?
• How do we correct this the right way?
Accountability is not condemnation.
Accountability is protection.
Love that refuses correction is not protection.
Love that listens, investigates, and acts — is.
