Hello everyone, response to the Sonic video has been really lovely so far! Glad people are enjoying it. Before I move onto another gargantuan project (the next in the Yakuza line) I want to do one or two lighter, more laid back videos to just take it easy, crack some jokes, show off a game I doubt is too well known and hopefully not take more than a third of the year working on something.
But I've sat for the last few hours in utter indecision which to properly pull the trigger on. So like I did with Brigand and Neuro before I'm offloading this to the audience. Which game do I do?
(And yeah, you're only getting the first letter of each title, you're alphabetting it's something you'll be into)
Hey. It's clear that a lot of people who saw the last video really want me to go on to 7.62, so I will, it won't be the next video but I will get around to it in time. I wanted to put out a poll to know which version I should play. I'll confess now I do not fully know what's compatible with what, I know there are story and mission differences between versions, and ideally I want the most guns and most story freedom.
Hey everyone, work is ongoing on the next two videos, Hooligan is partway through scripting and Saints Row (2022) is in note-taking. In the meanwhile I've joined mate of mine @hotcyder on a podcast called Bullet Time to discuss shooters of the last generation, I'm not on each episode but it's a fun time all around, and I'll be joining him for a series on Free Radical next month. So hopefully something to tide folks over until the next video.
Hello here's an update on stuff I worked on, stuff I'm working on and stuff I'm thinking of working on, featuring an image I spent an hour making instead of working on stuff. It's bigger if you click on it and basically says everything I'm about to write.
- ARDNUT GAMER First up, some of you may already know but some years back I made a joke video called the Ardnut Gamer and one person was so annoyed he told me to never make another video like that again. I did, I just made a side channel for it that updates whenever I have an idea, which is rare: www.youtube.com/channel/UCWgg...
- YAKUZA 0 Next video is Yakuza 0, I'm currently most of the way done with my first playthrough (just grinding out coliseum matches then I'm pretty much free to finish the story). I was worried that by this point in the Yakuza series I'd be struggling for new thoughts but no, Yakuza 0 is giving me plenty to chew on. When is it coming out? Couldn't say, it's further off than a month, probably two, but I am at work on it. I am bad at time estimates in general.
- PURE PWNAGE In a little diversion from typical gaming stuff, I've also started making notes for a retrospective on the old web series Pure Pwnage. It's an idea I've been kicking around for a while since I grew up with it and don't see anyone talk about the show nowadays, rewatching it as an adult was fun but kinda melancholy and I wanted to share. I am working on this alongside Yakuza 0, in my head it's meant to be an easier video to make but it probably won't be, I'm still not entirely sure how I want to format it since I'm covering an episodic show rather than a video game.
- BRIGADE E5/7.62 I've also been playing 7.62 and Brigade E5 recently, they've been sitting on my backlog for a long time and I finally took the plunge and I will probably make a video on at least one of these games. It's some good ambitious jank, a spiritual successor to Jagged Alliance in 3D with a nice meaty combat system and excellent interest rates at the local bank.
- FIGHTBOX Alongside that, I now own five copies of the game Fightbox. Four PS2 copies that don't work, and now a PC copy that might work. I've wanted to cover this game (and its TV series) for a while. After the BBC lost Robot Wars to Channel Five back in the day It was replaced by Fightbox. A show where people submitted CGI abominations made in an online tool to duke it out, it was really bad, every single episode apparently lost money, and somehow it got a game.
- PLAYING SONIC ADVENTURE WRONG Also in all of this mess I am gonna continue Playing Sonic Wrong, talking about the Adventure games, this will go from Adventure 1 - Sonic 06. Response to the first video was great, I'm really happy about that, and I hope I can keep it interesting throughout. Everyone pretty much called how I'm going to play Adventure 1 and yeah, was pretty obvious.
- VR Melee Comparison This video is just one I've dropped the ball on repeatedly. I've long wanted to make a video comparing various VR melee combat games, I was working on it when I made the Alyx/Boneworks comparison last year, but kept putting it off for other projects and that trend has continued, so this is just me acknowledging the project still exists. I did trip myself up because I cannibalised a few ideas I had for it and placed them in the VR Shooter vid.
So that is pretty much everything, I could have run another letter poll to have people vote for the order, but I've just given everything away so there'd be no mystery to it. I appreciate everyone's patience, and just know that I am chipping away at things.
Hey everyone, script for the next video is more or less finished (just needs refinements) and should hopefully be out later this month. It's the last of the games from the poll I put up some months back, and it's a weird retrospective on Sonic's classic era. Playing Sonic 1, 2, CD, and 3&K with odd stipulations. It's partly about the games and part topic brought on by whatever gimmick I've picked. It'll be a bit different as far as my videos go but hopefully entertaining nonetheless.
I'll be upfront, this was initially meant to be a full franchise retrospective in one video, but I decided to split it into eras otherwise I'd be gone for a long time just capturing footage for all the games, and this'll let me adjust approach based on feedback from the first part.
Plus, after this video is Yakuza 0! I feel like we've had enough stuff in between that I haven't just bombarded people with nothing but Yakuza.
The NARC script is finished, I'm gonna spend the evening cleaning it up and then begin narration tomorrow. Video hopefully out soon! In the meanwhile, I contributed to a friend's GOTY video where he talks to me and a bunch of other creators about their games of the year.
1. Next video is on NARC (2005), I've been doing a bit of research and played through the arcade original. Will likely wind up a lighter, goofier video than Legion, but honestly the game has thrown me for a couple of fun loops already so time will tell on that.
2. I'm no longer going to be streaming off of this channel, I'm gonna do a dumb thing by youtube standards and link offsite (Which will tank this post's chance to be shown to you) but I'm moving streaming to Twitch and I've created a VOD channel to upload them on. If you know anyone who might care please let them know.
Hope this isn't an inconvenience, have a good evening and I'll be kicking it off in an hour or so with some PS2 jank. Now I can be clumsy across two websites!
Finished recording footage for Watch_Dogs: Legion, doing notes and got a start on the script. Have a lot to say and a big job making it coherent and orderly ahead. Hopefully you'll all see me doing a lot of damage to my hometown soon
Brigand: Panama is done, I hope to have the video up tomorrow. Only issue now is youtube processing being a pain, but I'll just keep hammering at that until it works.
