I like to make lots of different types of content. It is mostly giant monsters, robots, and aliens, but I also enjoy broader sci-fi, the paranormal, and even dabble in some fantasy here and there.
Everyone has been talking about the new upcoming Godzilla anime negatively, but I’m withholding my judgement until it releases. It may not be orthodox, but it can still be good.
Managed to find the new wave of Monsterverse Playmates figures! As much as I would have liked to snag a bunch of them, I don’t have unlimited money. Burning Godzilla, Young Kong, and Blue Mothra, are all variants of monsters I already have figures for, so I decided to pick up Frost Vark from Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. I am very happy with it as I am with nearly all of the playmates figures! Hopefully we’ll get an Ion Dragon figure at some point (its picture on the packaging is a strong indicator).
Just saw Tron: Ares. It is not nearly as bad as people say it is. The soundtrack was amazing and sfx were awesome. Plot and characters weren’t groundbreaking but still pretty solid. I prefer the first two and think there were some aspects of this one that could have been done better, but overall an enjoyable time. I really hope beyond hope Tron has at least one more movie and that it starts getting made soon because I really would like to see Sam & Quorra return. Definitely worth seeing this in theaters.
Is there any interest in me making a series of my neurodivergent special interests? I will likely start out with recently discovered ones (pulp/golden age superheroes, Tron) and then return to more familiar ones (Tokusatsu, retro anime).
Each episode I will explain how I discovered the topic and why I think it is cool. I’m already thinking of making a separate series analyzing what makes pulp heroes unique and how they can be utilized in the modern day.
Rise of Skywalker rewatch review and sequel retrospective
I would compare this film to two 8 year olds dumping out their toys on the floor and having a massive battle where they try to beat each other with power scaling (I have 100 Star destroyers with Death Star lasers, oh yeah will I have all the spaceships in the galaxy, he has the souls of all the Sith in him, oh yeah well she has the souls of all the Jedi). I genuinely can’t watch this movie without picking out the convoluted writing choices, which is the core problem I have with the film. Like the previous sequels, the acting, soundtrack, effects, and everything else is all fantastic. Upon rewatch I couldn’t get through it without pointing things out that I thought didn’t make sense and I never do that for any movie EVER. The first two in the trilogy, though I have my gripes, are still decent films. This one felt much messier. Maybe it’s weird that I enjoy the prequels over the sequels but at least the prequels had a unified vision. This is the only Star Wars movie I never intend to willingly rewatch.
I preferred when Hux was a full on dictator.
Phasma and Finn had the most unrealized potential.
I wish Rey felt less hollow.
Luke’s character was butchered in Last Jedi.
A giant chunk of the Death Star II should not be fully intact. It was incinerated.
Lightsaber duels in the sequels feel boring, lacking the technique present in the prequels and their mysterious magic present in the originals. The duel at the end of force awakens is my favorite and last Jedi throne room battle is best choreographed.
Now if you excuse me, I’m going to go watch Star Trek: The Original Series.
So, for the new Superman movie, James Gunn made playlists for each of the characters based on what they would listen to (which is awesome). Funnily enough, my favorite playlist was Ultraman. I had listened to almost all of the bands in that playlist previously & you all know I am big on Tsuburaya’s Ultraman.
Never expected to find the likes of Mary’s Blood, Blind Guardian, and Amaranthe (some of my favorite bands) in an official DC playlist. My kinship with Ultraman knows no bounds, even when it isn’t the right one lol.
I personally loved the movie and highly recommend checking it out.
Any interest in book reviews? Primarily I’ll focus on Kaiju/mecha/toku stuff as well as general sci-fi. I also have interest in doing reviews of history books and novels related to wargames like Warhammer, but am unsure whether I should post it on this channel.
I feel my channel has too many videos so I’ve been working on cutting down that amount. This means I’ll be deleting some videos that are either overtly negative (I prefer to look on the bright side of things) or don’t align with my current views (for example, a review for a movie I said was good but upon further reflection I don’t like). Many older videos will be made private for their outdated look. Most will be unlisted if I found them to be of some quality but don’t fit with the theme of the channel that well or I wasn’t passionate about making them. These will be viewable in their respective playlists.
