2025 का नोबेल पुरस्कार (फिजियोलॉजी या मेडिसिन) अमेरिकी वैज्ञानिक मेरी बुनाकोव, फ्रांस के फ्रेड मर्सडेल और जापान के शिमोन सकागुची को उनकी क्रांतिकारी खोज के लिए प्रदान किया गया है।
इन तीनों वैज्ञानिकों की खोज ने ऑटोइम्यून रोगों और कैंसर के उपचार के नए रास्ते खोल दिए हैं।
इनका शोध इस बात पर केंद्रित है कि प्रतिरक्षा तंत्र (Immune System) स्वयं को कैसे नियंत्रित करता है।
उन्होंने Regulatory T Cells (Tregs) की भूमिका को उजागर किया — ये वे कोशिकाएँ हैं जो शरीर के अपने ऊतकों पर प्रतिरक्षा तंत्र के हमले को रोकती हैं।
इस खोज से रूमेटॉइड आर्थराइटिस, टाइप-1 डायबिटीज, मल्टीपल स्क्लेरोसिस जैसे रोगों की समझ और उनका उपचार करने की दिशा में नई संभावनाएँ बनी हैं।
साथ ही, कैंसर इम्यूनोथेरेपी (Cancer Immunotherapy) के नए रास्ते भी खुले हैं, जिससे प्रतिरक्षा तंत्र को कैंसर से लड़ने के लिए और अधिक प्रभावी बनाया जा सकेगा।
डॉ. शिमोन सकागुची ने कहा कि उन्हें कभी उम्मीद नहीं थी कि वे नोबेल पुरस्कार प्राप्त करेंगे। वैज्ञानिक समुदाय ने उनकी खोज को इम्यूनोलॉजी में क्रांति करार दिया है।
