Stopped on a stairwell walk Sunday at the Victoria Trades Hall and saw this. It’s hard to look at Gough and not think about how much Australia changed in the 70s.
For a bloke like me, it wasn’t just politics—it felt like the country opened up. Things that we often take for granted now—the way we look at healthcare, education, the way the world treats a person's dignity—those foundations were being poured right then. It really did improve my life in ways I didn't appreciate until I looked back from here, in my 50s.
It’s these shifts in our history that shape the lives we’re living today. I’ve been reflecting on how those past decisions ripple down into our current choices, particularly when it comes to the big stuff like housing and retirement.

Nice community building on this channel 80k views in first 6 weeks, so many Aussies are suffering in the cost of living crisis and so many of us are really just wanting an early retirement to escape the work/ rent/ find money for bill cycle.
Monday video is me showing the book my wife has kept for 25 years of every house we lived in since 2001, each home has a story from kitchen roof collapsing that happened in a rental after we spent 6 months reporting it to the property manager only to have the owner show no interest in repairs. The roof fire in a rental from aircon that should have been tested but for some reason the foreign investment firm didnt have the a/c turned on correctly and the a/c caught fire, lucky we had an observant neighbour. Ferrets invading my house, a home i owned, the neighbours a few doors up had a couple get loose and they decided to hide behind my tv and i was happy to stay away from them.
So Monday i will add overlays to the video, not something i like to do but i have a photo of every house and it would be easier to pop them in on the screen than me holding a book up to the camera.
