Flashback to the Kīlauea Volcano’s 61g flow—over a decade ago when locals and visitors hiked or biked the gravel stretch of Chain of Craters Road from both the park and Kalapana sides. Active lava poured down the pali and across the road into the sea, and people wandered freely with almost no restrictions.

One brave soul even tried roasting marshmallows over the lava (let’s just say it didn’t go over well 😅). The road was closed to vehicles, so it doubled as a great workout—about 10 miles round trip of pure volcanic magic.

Here’s to hoping Episode 36 brings back that same epic energy and fiery fountaining at Kīlauea’s summit! 🌋🔥✨
