When I notice that I have reached the point where I feel a growing desire to shape the music more, e.g. with dynamics, tempo, and phrasing.
Then I know that the music has already seeped into me a little. And when I then exaggerate the shaping a little, I seem to learn much faster and the music connects more deeply in my mind.
Conversely, one might think that if you start shaping the music a little earlier and exaggerate it a little.... provoke it a little... you may connect with the music more quickly.
There is the easy way and the challenging way. Every day, we choose one of the two. Consciously and unconsciously.
However, the awareness of which of these two paths we choose will be the mirror. The mirror that shows us, unvarnished, who we really are deep down inside.
It shows us the truth about why we do something. It shows us which of our decisions have allowed us to grow. It shows us a part of our soul.
I believe that when imagining how you want to play, you should never be modest. Let your imagination motivate and drive you! It's a very powerful force.
Even after three days of practicing with my eyes consciously closed, I'm already feeling noticeable progress. My ears and mind are opening up, and my hands are truly beginning to "see."
