Barry J Gibb is a self-shooting freelance filmmaker who used to be a scientist. After a decade of research, he swapped the microscope for a camera to pursue his love of making films about science, the humanities, art and the places those areas blur. Across the years he's made a series of 3 Minute Wonders for Channel 4, 'Life After Coma' and a multi award-winning online documentary series featuring comedian, Katherine Ryan (Routes, Oil Productions, Channel 4 and The Wellcome Trust).

His web series about mental health, Last Chance Saloon, won the Outstanding Achievement Award at the 2014 Toronto Webfest while 'Until', a film about ageing, won the Imagine Science Film Festival Nature People's Choice award in 2011. His latest indie documentary, The Gift (2020), featuring the life and death of artist Barbara Bird, is the recipient of multiple awards.
