My silly little rant has attracted WAY more views than I expected. But as soon as I saw some big names in the comments (people like Sinjo, PacMax, Deity, and others), I immediately felt so bad about what I had just done.
Since I’ve never been very big in the community before, my biggest priority was to pull views. And so I put on this dramatic personality who yells a lot because that’s kinda the internet culture these days. But it definitely came off as disrespectful to the people who actually work their butts off to host GBB for us. I also accidentally spread some misinformation that could harm the understanding of the community.
I had the privilege of having a private respectful conversation with Sinjo, and I plan to have many more in the future with event organizers, audio engineers, and competitors. I want to learn about the issue from as many people as possible before I make another video like this. Now that I realize how passionate the community is about this issue, I will do my best to be as respectful and fair as possible whenever I talk about it.
The more I research and the more I have respectful conversations, the more I realize that the SBX team who hosts GBB for us are human beings too. They are a group of extremely passionate people who work so hard to support a community in a niche that simply doesn’t make that much profit. They are doing their best, and it is unfair for me to make assumptions about them without hearing their side of the story.
I apologize to the SBX team members who watched my video. I didn’t intend to invalidate all of the work that you put into making some of the greatest events in music history. It was wrong of me to say that you “ruined the audio at GBB.”
I don’t think I will take down the video. It is proof that the community is so passionate about sound. But it is also proof that the community is extremely misinformed about sound. I will reconsider this decision once I have had more respectful conversations with event organizers, audio engineers, and competitors.
