Welcome to the official Doors channel - home of classic Doors live performances, The Doors albums, and contemporary performances and content honoring The Doors featuring John Densmore and Robby Krieger.
With an intoxicating, genre-blending sound, provocative and uncompromising songs, and the mesmerizing power of singer Jim Morrison’s poetry and presence, The Doors had a transformative impact not only on popular music but on popular culture.
The Doors’ arrival on the rock scene in 1967 marked not only the start of a string of hit singles and albums that would become classics, but also of something much bigger – a new and deeper relationship between creators and audience. Refusing to be mere entertainers, the Los Angeles quartet relentlessly challenged, confronted and inspired their fans, leaping headfirst into the heart of darkness while other bands warbled about peace and love. Though they’ve had scores of imitators, there’s never been another band quite like them.
The Doors
Check out this rare shot of The Doors performing at the Cleveland High School gym in Reseda, California, in the San Fernando Valley, circa 1967. Captured by student Don Johnson on his twin-lens reflex camera.
“They played for about 45 minutes, maybe an hour. I remember they played ‘Light My Fire’ - the long version! They also played ‘Break On Through,’ ‘The Crystal Ship,’ and ‘I Looked At You.’ But one very strange song they did - well, strange for The Doors - was ‘I Got You Babe’ by Sonny and Cher. I couldn’t believe it.” - Don Johnson

📸: Photographer Spotlight: Nettie Peña
Before The Doors became icons, Nettie Peña was there with her camera. A UCLA classmate, she photographed the band during their early days at the London Fog, capturing Morrison, Manzarek, Krieger, and Densmore before fame took hold.
Her images remain some of the only visual records of those formative nights. Peña even made reel-to-reel recordings of the shows, one of which was released as LIVE AT THE LONDON FOG - the second reel has yet to be found.

The Doors
"Nothing left to do, but run, run, run.”
In 1968, The Doors played a legendary circular venue in “The Big Smoke.” Sharing the stage with fellow psych pioneers Jefferson Airplane, they lit up the scene with a sound that would later fuel one of their most iconic Blues anthems.
The band’s third studio album, WAITING FOR THE SUN, signed by John and Robby, is hidden at this historic venue, along with a very special prize: a copy of the limited-edition book NIGHT DIVIDES THE DAY: THE DOORS ANTHOLOGY.
Think you’ve found the spot? Go there in person and see if you can uncover it. If you find the record, snap a photo and tag us with #DoorsScavHunt.
If nothing is found in two days, we will drop a second clue.

📸 Photographer Spotlight: Jerry Hopkins
Hopkins first met the band while on assignment for ROLLING STONE, interviewing Jim Morrison in Los Angeles. Afterward, Jim invited him to rehearsals, giving Hopkins rare access to capture the group outside the spotlight.
In June 1969, Hopkins traveled with The Doors to Mexico City, photographing their legendary run at El Fórum. His candid images documented not only the concerts, but the atmosphere surrounding the band’s time in Mexico.
