TEACHER APPRECIATION POST! (on the first day of NYC school)
🎺 We had a very special gig yesterday to tell you all about! Josh G couldn’t make the hit so we asked our old LaGuardia high school jazz band teacher and New Orleans native Kevin Blancq to fill in, our first trumpet sub in almost 10 years! We played classic NOLA tunes on the NYC streets together yesterday just like when we started out almost 20 years ago while Mr. B was our teacher in school. We wouldn’t be a band to begin with if it weren't for the mentorship, encouragement and time that our own “Dr. Jazz” generously afforded us and we will be forever grateful for the life changing experience of being his students for four incredible years. To all the teachers out there, you may never know the difference you truly make in the lives of your students. We’ve since been able to tour the world and amass a following of 1,000,000+ music lovers, many of whom are hearing the sounds of brass and woodwind instruments for the first time. It’s all due to our early music teachers like Mr. B, thank you for passing us the torch, we’ll continue to keep the flame lit!
