Beta has kindly dropped off their 2026 RS 350 dual sport bike (MSRP $12,390) for testing. Like the KTM 350EXC-F ($13,049) it competes with, the Beta RS (available in 350, 390, 430, and 500 versions) is a "street legal enduro", made to dominate off road, but not intended for long stints on the highway.

Since it's less expensive than the KTM or Husqvarna, and offers additional features like a standard map switch, traction control, and a Trail Tech Voyager GPS, should a Beta be on top of your shopping list? Let's find out.

Since I personally own a 2022 Beta 500 RR-S, I can also offer a comparison between the different engine displacements and how they affect the riding experience.

Nine riders, including myself on the @aprilia_americas Tuareg Rally, set out from Phoenix to ride the hard way to Crown King, a tiny, remote town deep in the Arizona mountains. The "Hard Way" was an understatement. 14 hours later, 10 PM at night, I pulled back into the ‪@LawTigers‬ office, tired to the bone, never having actually reached Crown King (4 brave souls did, however).

The whole story will be told soon on the Law Tigers YouTube channel, as well as my own and possibly several others who were with me, like @adamsandoval @warthogbike , @kruesioriginals , to name a few.

My Tuareg Rally review will be coming soon. I am deeply impressed with the bike, it might be my new favorite middleweight ADV. Stay tuned for that.

Husqvarna has loaned me the 2025 Vitpilen 801 (MSRP $10,499). Based on the popular KTM 790 Duke, this middleweight sporty roadster offers a punchy 105 HP engine, unique styling, a full suite of customizable rider aids, adjustable suspension, and more.

If you want more tech, features and power than something like a Honda Hornet 750 or Suzuki GSX-8S, but you don't need (and most don't) the power and higher price tag of a KTM Duke 990, Triumph Street Triple RS, or similar, the Vitpilen 801 might be the sweet middle ground (although, the Yamaha MT-09 is going to "enter the chat" for sure).

The 2026 BMW R1300RT (MSRP $32,220 as tested) is finally here for testing. I declared in the past (and stand by it) that the outgoing R1250RT was the world's finest touring motorcycle, due to its unique combination of sporting prowess, relatively light weight, and outright comfort and wind protection.

With more power, more features, and more tech, including "variable slipstream deflectors" (pictured), and the new dynamic chassis adaption which changes the bike's geometry between different ride modes, is the new R1300RT now worthy of the crown of world's best tourer?

One trait of the KTM 690 Enduro R versus most ADV bikes I test, is that it is much more likely I'll explore just about any crazy trail I can find. On a heavier multi-cylinder ADV bike, especially when riding alone as I usually do, I typically won't explore as much. The 690 is that one bike that can do just about everything - BUT, it's not great in any certain area, and has some serious design compromises.

Some test notes so far:

➕Engine - the new engine makes much more power/torque at low to mid RPMs, and fueling seems great so far. Vibration is fairly well controlled too, it is definitely smoother than the 2019-2025 bikes.
➕The new tech - TFT dash, slip adjuster etc. - works great, and the bike remembers ALL your settings when turned off and on (two huge thumbs up)
➕The seat is better than before
➕I notice a lot of heat on the back of my legs at low speeds off road. Like, a LOT. Maybe due to Euro5+ compliance?
➕The tall gearing makes slow speed technical off road a major challenge. (just as always with this platform)

KTM have heavily revised their 690 Enduro R ($13,399) for the 2026 model year, and I've got one here for testing. Almost every component of the bike has been updated in some way. Highlights include a more powerful engine (now 78 HP), new electronic rider aids including rider modes and optional 1-9 dynamic slip adjust that adjusts to the terrain, new TFT dash, updated bodywork, new suspension settings, new seat, new LED headlight, and more.

Overall weight (335 lb or 152 kg) remains the same, as well as fuel capacity (3.5 gal or 13.3L), and seat height (a tall 36.8 in or 935mm).

With much less weight and in some cases more power than "middleweight" twin-cylinder adventure bikes, the 690 Enduro should continue to be popular for those looking for a "do it all" bike that can conquer both highway and trails, while having the power and suspension performance to keep expert riders happy.
