➕173 horsepower. how can you go wrong with that?
➕new engine also has smoother power delivery due to Camshift VVT
➕they feel lighter than the competition due to the low fuel tanks
➕the S EVO has the new automated manual transmission (AMT), which works great and gives you manual or auto shifting options
➕the previous 1290 SA's were some of the most entertaining bikes I've ever tested, so these should be even better?

First episode on the all-new 2026 Ducati DesertX V2 is live. Here are some reasons I decided to be an early adopter of this brand new 2nd gen DesertX:

➕I've never owned a Ducati (how is this possible since I've owned close to 80 bikes?)
➕I fell in love with the new V2 engine after testing it in the Multistrada V2
➕They fixed literally everything I complained about on the first gen.

Some first ride impressions: ultra smooth and very free-revving engine, much improved suspension, less wind buffeting, great brakes, and probably the most stable feeling ADV I've ever ridden (long wheelbase really helps). I also think this has the best road handling of any 21" front bike.

The Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello S (MSRP $17,690) joins the test fleet. After this review, I will be picking up the Stelvio, which many of you have requested.

The V100 is interesting because:
➕it uses a transverse (sideways) V-Twin and shaft final drive
➕it is loaded with tech, including active aerodynamics, electronic Ohlins suspension, an electric windshield, and radar assisted rider aids like adaptive cruise control
➕it has a modern wet clutch, and a quick shifter (on a Guzzi? yes!)

Does the V100 Mandello S perfectly bridge the gap between classic style and modern performance, and between casual and sporty riding? Let's find out!

The BMW R1300RS (MSRP $25,895 as tested) has arrived for an in-depth review. The RS is interesting because:

➕it's a sport-tourer but (unlike the RT) leans towards SPORT
➕unlike the RT and GS, it uses a conventional front fork and not a telelever, which gives it better road feedback
➕unlike many sport-tourers, it uses shaft drive, and a boxer engine with a huge torque output

➕I hope everyone is out enjoying some springtime riding. I’ve even gotten a little riding in on my own bikes, which is rare!

➕Most of my time has been devoted to filming a six-way budget ADV comparison test. I got together the CFMOTO Ibex 450, Kawasaki KLE500, KTM 390 Adventure R, Honda NX500, Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, and the Kawasaki KLR650. All these bikes cost between $6500 to $7500 US, have between 40 to 50 HP, and are all A2 compliant (minus the KLR). Stay tuned for that video! This might be the hottest segment in motorcycling right now.

➕This week I’m headed to Utah to take a 2-day training class from the one and only Chris Birch, and next week I’m attending the BDR fundraiser in Big Bear, California. Busy times!
