Seven people have lost their lives in a devastating wrong-way collision on the A66.
In the early hours of Saturday, a Volkswagen Passat travelling against the flow of traffic collided with a marked Cleveland Police vehicle near Middlesbrough.
PC Matthew Blades, 37, and PC Tom Clough, 38, died alongside all five occupants of the Passat.
The officers had not been involved in the original pursuit, but had been called to assist with the search for the vehicle.
As tributes continue and hundreds of thousands of pounds are raised for the officers’ families, police are also carrying out a major investigation into the events and alleged criminal activity that preceded the collision.
Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of everyone affected.
