The Vatican is one of those places that can feel overwhelming if you don't have a plan.
Two tips from years of helping visitors here: first, go later in the day when the crowds thin out. Second, if you take a guided tour, you may be able to use the shortcut from the Sistine Chapel directly into St. Peter's Basilica, which saves a lot of time.
And don't skip the Vatican Gardens or the secret rooms if you can book access. They're quieter, less crowded, and give you a completely different side of the Vatican.

We just hit 80k subscribers, and I wanted to take a second to actually say thank you.
This channel grew because you kept sharing it with people planning trips to Rome.
That means a lot more to me than the number does.
If there's something you've been wanting me to cover, drop it in the comments. I'm always planning the next one.

In 8 years of making videos about Rome, the thing I look forward to most is your comments.
Some of you have been watching since the beginning. Some of you found the channel last week. Either way, I want to hear from you.
Tell me: which Romewise video helped you the most? Or which one made you book a trip? I genuinely want to know. I’ll be reading every comment this week.

Quick tip for those of you visiting Rome during Easter week. Don't leave the Colosseum for Good Friday. The whole area closes at 1pm for the papal Via Crucis procession.
And Sunday/Monday will be busier than normal because the Vatican Museums close for both days, so everyone heads to the Colosseum instead.
Go Thursday or Saturday morning for the best experience. Full guide on my site: romewise.com/colosseum-hub.html

Chag Sameach to everyone celebrating Passover this week. If you're planning a trip to Rome and want to understand the city's Jewish history, the Ghetto neighborhood near the Portico d'Ottavia is one of the most layered and meaningful places you can visit. Wishing you a peaceful holiday.

One of the most popular pages on my site is about bathrooms in Rome. And I totally understand why. It's the kind of practical stuff that actually makes or breaks a day of sightseeing.
Quick tips: carry pocket tissues. Use bars (cafes) when you need a bathroom. And if you can't figure out the sink, look for foot pedals on the floor.

This month marks 8 years since the first Romewise video went live.
I started this channel because I kept getting the same questions from friends and family planning trips to Rome, and I thought, why not just make a video? One video turned into hundreds, and now this channel is how I spend most of my working life.
I don't take that for granted. Thank you for subscribing, for watching, for sharing these videos with people planning their own trips.
The next year of content is going to be the best yet. Stay tuned.
