Today, I realize I am only 2 weeks away from completing my undergraduate degree. Wow! 🥹

My journey to a Bachelor's degree started in 1994. As I stepped foot on my first college campus, I did so with all the confidence I would tackle anything waiting for me. I just knew I was going to graduate in 1998 and be on my way to accomplish those super high goals I had for myself. To say I had a high ego is an understatement. 🫣

What I didn't realize then, is that I had no business going to college when I did. I should have taken time to properly grieve the major loss my family suffered just a year earlier. My entire senior year and subsequent collegiate years, I masked a hurt that was so deep, I started to believe I was fine. The truth is, I wasn't. I did not allow myself to properly grieve the loss of the woman who my entire world centered around. I was going through the motions and trying to do what I felt she would have wanted. Trying to keep up the appearance of the stellar student who came out of high school with the highest expecations of success.

At the same time, I was dealing with a very painful illness that remained nameless for the next 10 years (Endometriosis). I began to slip into major depression, still hiding what I was going through. Unresolved grief, depression and a debilitating medical illness took its toll on me. Instead of graduating, I walked away from college mentally broken, physically exhausted and embarrassed. I was so broken. Whew! 🥺

I returned to college this final time, having faced and made it through many situations I thought I would not make it out of. I returned with focus, my health and a support system that I could only dream of (God knew what I needed…my Hubby and my babies❤️). This time, I was determined to COMPLETE what the 17 year old me started. I owe it to her. I owe it to the 21 year old me who left college completely broken, mentally and physically. 🙌🏾

So my word for this year, that will be on my graduation cap in June, is COMPLETION.

I plan to push today’s video to Thursday and still have a Freebie Friday video this week. To make up for Thursday’s video, I plan to upload for Saturday.

I just want to hit a time out button for a while.
Yesterday our dryer stopped working for the second time in 3 weeks. No money to do anything about it. 😑. Then I get a message this morning that one of my uncles passed away. 😑😒. I just want to run and hide.

I don’t normally bake chocolate cakes, but it has been a very tough week and the kids had a sweet tooth. We were given a Devils Food Cake box mix. So I took the plunge with some recommended additions. We shall see how it turned out.

What’s your favorite cake? My family has come to love 7up cake.
