Making It Up with Dan

I posted a video about cutting a blank from a Black Walnut log for a wand commission, and people were very interested in seeing the finished product. Well, here it is. The Runes on the handle are a form of the Anglo-Saxon Alphabet (with additions for modern letters and sounds that didn't exist in Old English) used by some practitioners of Wicca. They spell the name of the recipient, which I'm keeping private (unless you can read runes). As I said at the beginning of the post, made from the crotch of a branch of Black Walnut. The symbol on the bottom of handle (under the cat head) is my signet\makers mark. The 2 intertwined W's stand for Winters Woodworks.

3 carvings that are more or less ready for finish and wax. A male figure wand, a serving spoon, and a luck dragon inspired wand. The finishing process isn't difficult, but it is time consuming. I'll post photos once they're fully finished, so keep an eye out.

Pain-wise I had a mostly good day yesterday, save for part of the evening. Today has been an entirely different story. I've been down most of the day, with pain and neurologic symptoms effecting my speech, fine motor control, and generally making it feel like there's an electrical current running just under my skin through my entire body.

So, that's fun. Hooray Chronic Intractable Migraine. 😵‍💫

These Ginkgo coasters need a tiny bit of finishing work, then they are ready for finish. I have many things ready to finish, but my only shop ventilation is the garage door, and it's cold outside? Which is also not ideal curing conditions for oil finishes. I'll figure something out.
