To every junior developer — here’s something I wish I knew earlier.

You hit a wall. You need help. Your first instinct? Walk over to the senior engineer and ask, "How do I do this?"

Here's what I wish someone had told me: senior engineers aren't Google with legs.

So research first. Try it out yourself. Take notes. Explore a few paths, even if they don’t lead anywhere.

Then, when you go to your senior, don’t just ask how — ask is this a good approach? Would you do it differently? What would you improve?

Watch their face light up.

You're not asking them to do your job. You're asking them to guide your thinking. You're showing respect for their time and your own growth.

This doesn't mean suffer in silence. If you're truly stuck after genuine effort, ask for help. That's what they're there for. But come prepared. Show your work. Make it a collaboration, not a handout.

Your senior engineers will respect you more. You'll learn faster. And you'll build the research skills that will serve you for life.
