Never has our mission at Common Sense been more important.
Whether it's addressing the digital divide, supporting families and schools in transitioning to remote learning, or pressuring the technology industry to stop hate speech, Common Sense is leading the way toward a healthier, more just and equitable digital future for our children.
To support these efforts, we are bringing our Common Sense community together for an inspiring virtual fundraiser with special guests, hopeful reflections, and a provocative conversation about educational equity.
We are excited to make this event free to everyone — but would appreciate donations of any amount.
Today on our Conversations with Common Sense channel, we have a very special conversation about how many Black communities lack access and face inadvertent bias from machine-learning algorithms — which can adversely affect Black families and deepen racial divides. Please join Common Sense and tech equity experts to discuss how we can center Black families and support a just future.
We have another important conversation coming up tomorrow at 10am PT/1pm ET. The event will feature Dr. Ibram X. Kendi, leading scholar on race in America, in conversation with Julie Lythcott-Haims, New York Times bestselling author and activist, and child psychologist Dr. Allison Briscoe-Smith. We are co-hosting this talk with the folks at INFORUM from the Commonwealth Club of California. Head on over to our Conversations with Common Sense channel, subscribe, and hit that bell to get notified of this and all of our future conversations!
It has been a really intense few days and no doubt you and your families have been watching the images and scenes from all across the country as we reel yet again from widespread protests against police brutality and institutional racism here in the U.S. With near-constant exposure to news and social media, more kids are witnessing this violence and its aftermath firsthand.
However, this has also created an opportunity to speak openly with our children about it. So, how can these conversations be most effective?
Please join us tomorrow for a conversation with child development, children's health, and trauma-care experts to talk about ways families can support their children, one another, and a just future.
Guests: Allison Briscoe-Smith, PhD

We had the best conversation today thanks to our partners and friends at Noggin and Nick Jr. for Wide Open School. This town hall discussion focused on how best to support kids under the age of 10 during this challenging time.
