Trump accepted a $400 million luxury jet from Qatar. Taxpayers spent hundreds of millions more upgrading it, and the Secret Service still would not let him fly home on it.

Why? That’s exactly what New York Times reporters started investigating, and Trump’s Justice Department subpoenaed them for it.

That is intimidation, pure and simple.

The American people deserve a full accounting of every taxpayer dollar spent on Qatar Force One. Journalists must be free to investigate without government intimidation, and after taxpayers footed the bill for upgrades, the plane should belong to the United States, not Donald Trump’s presidential library.

Where does it end?

Trump has embraced the idea that if you lie enough, exhaust people enough, and flood the country with enough corruption, eventually nothing matters anymore.

I refuse to accept that.

For 250 years, America has stood for freedom, hope, and opportunity. We cannot let one corrupt president convince us to lower our standards for what this country should be.

The American people are better than this, and I won’t stand for it.

A government deal this corrupt would’ve made the front page of every newspaper in the country twenty years ago. Under the Trump Administration, it’s just another Tuesday.

Let’s break it down.

Donald Trump Jr. invested in a startup called Vulcan Elements. Peter Navarro — Trump’s senior advisor, a convicted felon, and a close friend of Don Jr.’s — personally pressured the Pentagon into loaning that startup $620 million. Of all the companies under consideration, it was the only one fast-tracked by a direct aide to the President.

The startup’s valuation jumped TENFOLD.

No one should ever use public office to enrich themselves or their allies. That’s why I launched the End Corruption Caucus with Rep. Jason Crow & Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez because American tax dollars are for projects that benefit the American people, not for shady backroom business deals.

Someone made a fortune betting that America was about to go to war with Iran. They placed that bet 71 minutes before it happened. I’m a member of Congress with access to classified briefings, and I had no reason to believe it was coming right then.

How is this legal? Because the guardrails that were supposed to stop this were never put in place. The CFTC was working on them under Biden, and the Trump Administration walked that effort back. And wouldn’t you know it, Donald Trump Jr. has a financial stake in these betting platforms.

No one should be able to cash in on advance knowledge of a war, especially when there are lives on the line. Betting on war, death, and regime change should be illegal. That's exactly what my DEATH BETS Act would do.

Members of Congress should not be able to trade individual shares of stocks. No ifs, ands, or buts.

We vote on laws that move markets. We receive briefings the public never sees. We should not be able to use that position to profit from the industries we regulate.

Too many people in Washington on both sides of the aisle are looking for loopholes and exceptions. I’m not.

People on both sides of the aisle have been trying to squirm their way out of this basic commitment to transparency and oversight. I won’t stand for it, and I’ll keep fighting until money is OUT of our politics.

This cannot be a watered-down “ban” riddled with loopholes. It must cover members of Congress and their spouses, the President, the Vice President, and Cabinet officials, with real penalties for anyone who violates it.

Trump Jr. bought into a startup. The White House then personally intervened to hand that startup $620 million from the Pentagon, and the company’s valuation jumped from $200 million to $2 billion.

You tell me if that sounds suspicious.

Today, I introduced an amendment demanding an independent investigation into how this company won this deal without seemingly any competition and with potential conflicts of interest.

The American people deserve a straight answer. I’m doing everything possible to make sure we get one.
