Ended my more-than-96-hours fasting this evening, due to keto flu [1]. To break my fast, I first had beacon steak and monkfruit drink [2]. It was too full that I had to finish my meal forcefully and slowly. And then, drank a bottle of chocolate cold milk, the sweetness & coldness help me better digestion.

I felt that intentional hunger is better than eating too full 😛

[1] keto flu is a group of symptoms that may appear two to seven days after starting a ketogenic diet. Headache, foggy brain, fatigue, irritability, nausea, difficulty sleeping, and constipation are just some of the symptoms of this condition, which is not recognized by medicine.

[2] Monk fruit extract (not the real fruit) will not break a fast. Because there is no sugar, it does not cause a sugar spike, which normally breaks a fast. However, studies are limited on the subject. There is documentation that monk fruit may stimulate insulin secretion, but the jury is still out as to whether the action is enough to break the fast.

From what I have heard, most of the 100:1 extracts are not actually sceletium tortuosum and are actually lampranthus tenuifolius. I believe its because lampranthus tenuifolius is commonly grown and exported from China for cheaper prices, where as most of the sceletium tortuosum comes from Africa.

Lampranthus tenuifolius and lampranthus spectabilis is a common lookalikes iceplants, contains mesembrenol and low levels of related alkaloids such as mesembrenone and have sometimes been mislabeling / mismarketing / misleading consumers by completely selling pure Lampranthus as Kanna.

How to tell? It's almost always the same tan-brown colored shit that has way too much maltodextrin to be normal and will make the powder sticky (like sticky residue on your hands), sparkly and sandy and taste sweet-ish. Like someone has mentioned upon burning it will caramelize. It's always abnormally cheap.
